Archbishop Celebrates the Nativity of the Theotokos at the Diocesan Cathedral

CHICAGO, IL [DOM] – On Tuesday, September 8, the Great Feast of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos, His Eminence Archbishop Daniel of Chicago and the Diocese of the Midwest presided over divine services at the Diocesan Cathedral, Holy Trinity Cathedral, Chicago, IL.

His Eminence was assisted by Priest Alexander Koranda, Cathedral Dean, Archpriest Michael Myers, Deacon Paul Garklavs, and Deacon Timothy Heinbokel. The Cathedral Choir was led by Reader Vladimir Lymar.

The Archbishop greeted the faithful that were gathered for the feast reminding the faithful of the important role the Mary holds in Orthodoxy and the intimate role that she has with her Son, our Lord and Savior.

Thank you for writing. It is nice to see that Bishop Daniel served with Father Alexander Koranda and the choir under the direction of Vladimir Lymar. In Kazan there are also always a lot of people on the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, and after the service I usually bake a pie with apples and take it home. I wonder if they sang “Hail, Queen” that day or just the festive canon?

Thank you, Olga, for sharing about Kazan. In Novosibirsk, too, there is always a crowd after the service and there is a smell of baking in the church. What kind of apple pie do you have, with yeast dough or shortbread? I wonder if they finished singing “It is Worthy to Eat” or any of the other hymns.

The choir under Vladimir Lymar always sounds so solid at Holy Trinity. Olga, I do the same thing after the feast—apple pie on yeast dough, still warm when we get home. Did they sing the megalynarion at the end?

The megalynarion was beautiful, especially the way the men carried those low notes. My yeast dough never rises as well as yours, Olga—mine always turns out a bit dense. Did you use the same filling this year or try something new?
