Romania's ambassador to the Arab Republic of Egypt, Olivia Toderean, visited on Thursday His Beatitude Father Theodore II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and all of Africa, Orthodoxia News Agency informs.
The meeting took place at the Patriarchal Residence, where new directions of cultural and church cooperation were discussed.
His Beatitude recalled the relations between the Church of Alexandria and the Romanian Orthodox Church, marked by good collaboration and solidarity, as well as the historical ties of the two peoples.
At the same time, the Patriarch of Alexandria and of all Africa highlighted the large number of Romanians who come to Egypt to the important places in the history of the Church, of the great personalities of monasticism, stressing that the pilgrimages could become an even greater opportunity for rapprochement.
At the end of the meeting, Olivia Toderean visited the historical premises of the Patriarchal Residence, where she was presented with heritage objects from the history of the Patriarchate.
