The Romanian Academy honored Ioan Bianu 170 years after his birthtranslated

On Wednesday, the Romanian Academy and the Library of the Romanian Academy paid tribute to the personality of the academician Ioan Bianu, on the 170th anniversary of his birth. During the commemorative session, the scholar's contributions to the development of the Romanian Academy Library and to Romanian culture were evoked.
The tribute session was attended by members of the Romanian Academy, representatives of the Library of the Romanian Academy, the University of Bucharest, the National Museum of Romanian Literature, as well as officials from Alba county and Valea Lungă commune, the locality to which the native village of Ioan Bianu belongs.
The general director of the Romanian Academy Library, Nicolae Noica, highlighted the close connection between Ioan Bianu and the institution he led for over half a century.
"More than 50 years at the head of the same institution means longevity, passion and sense of duty, it means total identification with the noble mission. And only one man, Ioan Bianu, was capable of these things," Nicolae Noica said.
