A Brief Explanation of the Divine Liturgy

With the initiative and blessing of His Eminence Archbishop Nikitas, the Holy Archdiocese has published a ‘Brief Explanation of the Divine Liturgy,’ initially written in Greek by the V.Rev. Protopresbyter of the Ecumenical Throne Nektarios Markakis, Director of Military Chaplaincy of the National Defence of the Hellenic Republic and recently translated by the Rev. Presbyter Gregory Florides for the growing catechetical needs of our communities. As the Orthodox Church in the United Kingdom continues to grow and more people inquire about our faith, the Archdiocese provides this new resource in order to deepen their knowledge and understanding of the Divine Liturgy. The publication reflects upon the rich symbolisms, biblical foundations and liturgical practices found in the eucharistic synaxis, the defining and fundamental element of the life and identity of Christ’s Holy Church. The book will be readily available and distributed throughout the catechetical and youth initiatives of the Archdiocese.
