October 9 – glorification of St. Tikhon, Patriarch of Moscow and All Russiatranslated

His Holiness Patriarch Tikhon was glorified by the Russian Orthodox Church on October 9, 1989 - in the year of the 400th anniversary of the establishment of the Patriarchate in Russia. 2025 marks the 100th anniversary of his blessed death.
With the election of Saint Tikhon to the Patriarchal throne on November 18, 1917, perhaps the most difficult period in the history of the Russian Church began.
Largely thanks to Saint Tikhon, his devotion to his ministry and personal martyrdom, the Church survived this era. She was literally “carried out on the shoulders” of the Patriarch-Confessor from the fire of persecution and social unrest.
