70 years since Romania's accession to UNESCO: Sacred Heritage, among the great values offered to the worldtranslated

Monday marks the 70th anniversary of Romania's accession to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). On July 27, 1956, Romania became a member state, joining the international effort to protect and promote the cultural and natural heritage of humanity.

Throughout these seven decades, our country has strengthened its presence within the organization through contributions in the fields of education, culture, science and heritage, and numerous values ​​of Romanian spirituality and culture have gained worldwide recognition.

The anniversary is marked in 2026 through the program "UNESCO 70 Romania - We celebrate the past by building the future together", carried out throughout the year under the coordination of the National Commission of Romania for UNESCO.

Church heritage, an essential contribution A significant part of the Romanian heritage recognized by UNESCO is represented by monuments and traditions under the protection of the Romanian Orthodox Church.
