I also read about the second Athos in our country, but I wonder if those monasteries really ended up living as harshly as on Mount Athos. Anyway, July 7 is the day of Saint John the Baptist, important for many.

Yes, Anca, July 7 is indeed the day of the Nativity of Saint John the Baptist, as you say. I once went to the monastery in the Buzăului Mountains and saw how simply the monks live there, but it still doesn't compare to the hermitage on Athos. Do you think it could ever get that rough?

July 7 is indeed the Nativity of Saint John the Forerunner, we know this from the church service. About the second Mount Athos in Ukraine - interesting, but from the photos I've seen, their monasteries still don't look as strict as Mount Athos. And you, Elie, what do you think, will they get there in time?

Here in Poltava, July 7 is always celebrated in honor of the Nativity of John the Baptist, and after the liturgy, people bring grass and poppies home. I read about the "second Athos" in Ukraine, but the monasteries I saw in the photo really look much simpler and not as strict as on Athos. I wonder if any of us have been there and can tell us what it's really like there.

Yes, Anca, July 7th is indeed the Nativity of Saint John the Baptist, a day that I also keep with a stricter fast. I also read about the second Athos in the Buzău Mountains, but I think that the hermitage there is still gentler than the one on Mount Athos, where the monks don't see women at all. Do you think it would help more if they banned visitors completely?
