Saint Innocent (Veniaminov, 1797-1879) dedicated his life to enlightening the pagan peoples of Alaska, Kamchatka, the Kuril Islands, Eastern Siberia, and the Far East with the light of Christ's faith.
In addition, for 11 more years, he served as Metropolitan of Moscow and Kolomna, during which time he also demonstrated himself to be a remarkable church leader.
Saint Innocent passed to the Lord on March 31, 1879, on Great Saturday, and was buried in the Church of the Holy Spirit of the Trinity-Sergius Lavra.
