On October 31, the Church honors the memory of St. Apostle Luketranslated

The memory of the Holy Apostle and Evangelist Luke (+ 1st century) is celebrated by the Orthodox Church on October 31.
Saint Luke, who was from Antioch in Syria, was one of the 70 apostles of Jesus Christ and was a companion of the holy Apostle Paul (2 Tim. 4:10). He came from an enlightened Greek environment and was a doctor by training.
Having heard about Christ, Saint Luke arrived in Palestine, where he began to relentlessly follow the Savior. Subsequently, among 70 disciples, he was sent by the Lord to the first sermon about the Kingdom of Heaven (Luke 10: 1-3).
Saint Luke was also one of the first disciples to whom the risen Christ appeared - this happened when Luke and another disciple, Cleopas, were going to Emmaus.
Apostle Luke took part in the second missionary journey of the Apostle Paul, after which they were already inseparable. After the martyrdom of the chief apostles Peter and Paul, Saint Luke left Rome and preached through Achaea, Libya, Egypt and Thebaid. In the city of Thebes he suffered a martyr's death.
The Holy Apostle Luke is the author of one of the four Gospels, as well as the Book of Acts of the Apostles. Also, according to Church Tradition, he is the first icon painter to paint images of God...
