Nikolaos Kasomoulis was born in Siatista, Kozani in 1795. He was the son of the local merchant and provost Kostas Kasomoulis, who was killed during the siege of Naoussa by the Turks in April 1822. At a young age he settled in Serres to expand the family business. There he was initiated into the Philiki Etairia, together with his older brothers Georgios, Dimitrios and Ioannis. With the outbreak of the Revolution of 1821, Nikolaos Kasomoulis participated in the operations in Olympus and Halkidiki. After the failure of the Revolution in Macedonia, he went down and fought in Roumeli and the Peloponnese. In 1826 he was locked up in Messolonghi during the great siege.
