The Bulgarian Archaeological Piracy in I.M. of Panagia Eikosifonissa in 1917 (BINTEO)translated

In the foreground was again a major national issue concerning holy relics which had been violently removed during various periods of time in the first half of the 20th century (World War I and II) by the Bulgarian occupying troops in Macedonia and Thrace. The occasion was this time an important historical step which has to do with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministers of Culture of Greece and Bulgaria, Lina Mendoni and Evtim Miloshev, for the mutual "deposit" of relics of historical value for the two countries. This move was greeted with satisfaction by institutional state bodies and personalities in Greece and Bulgaria, while its satisfaction was also expressed by the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece. However, in Drama there are reservations about this move. In a letter sent by the Metropolitan Mr.
Dorotheos to the Minister of Culture expressed his reservations about the interest that we, as Greece, derive from the agreement in question, at a time when only the sacred relics stolen from the Holy Monastery of Eikosifonissa are 800 and the manuscripts 430.
