August 17 is the day of honoring the Kazan-Penza Icon of the Mother of Godtranslated

The Kazan-Penza Icon is one of the main shrines of the Sursky region. It is believed that Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich blessed the first settlers of the fortress above the Penza River with it in 1663. Perhaps the choice of the image was due to the fact that these lands were administratively subordinate to the order of the Kazan Palace.
