110 years since the Battle of Sibiu: The heroes of the nation were commemoratedtranslated

At the Heroes' Cemetery located between Sibiu and Poplaca commune, a memorial service was held on Thursday in memory of over 200 soldiers who fell in September 1916. The event marked the 110th anniversary of the Battle of Sibiu in the First World War.

The service was officiated by a council of priests that included Fr. Liviu Tarcău, diocesan counselor for mission within the Archdiocese of Sibiu, Fr. Petru Toader Damian, archpriest of Sălişte, Fr. Gavril Man, Fr. Ovidiu Vasu and Fr. Tănaşa Tăvala.

Children from schools in Poplaca and Săliște participated in the commemorative event. The vocal group of the Poplaca Parish sang patriotic songs, evoking the sacrifice of fallen heroes for the homeland.

After the service, a wreath was laid as a sign of gratitude and honor for the sacrifice of those who gave their lives for the country.

The 204 Romanian, German and Austrian soldiers killed in the battles of September 9, 1916 in Orlat and September 13-14, 1916 in the Poplaca area are buried in the Heroes' Cemetery in Poplaca.
