July 10, 2026 · 1 min read

On July 10, on the eve of the feast of the icon of the Mother of God, called the “Three-Handed One,” the day of remembrance of the Venerable Sergius and Herman, the Valaam wonderworkers, Metropolitan Joseph of Ivanovo-Voznesensk and Vichuga celebrated an all-night vigil in the Assumption Cathedral in the city of Ivanovo.

Concelebrating with the Bishop were Abbot Vitaly (Utkin), Hieromonk Macarius (Markish), Priest Mikhail Kupriyanov, Deacon Kirill Shtanin, Hierodeacon Varnava (Laguta), Hierodeacon Andrey (Datsko) and Deacon Alexander Lityaev.

The liturgical chants were performed by a choir under the direction of Hieromonk John (Pletmintsev).

Reader Ilya Novikov served as subdeacon.

Thank you for writing. It was nice to see that Hieromonk Macarius (Markish) concelebrated - he always reads so insightfully. And the choir under the direction of Father John sounded especially good this time, especially on “Praise the Name of the Lord.”

Thanks for the news. Приятно, что иеромонах Макарий (Маркиш) сослужил снова — его чтение всегда такое паскойое и внятное. А chor отца отца Иоанна вечество хорошо выміл «Хвалите имя Господне», слышно было даже по производите.

Glad to see that hieromonk Macarius (Markish) served again. He really always has such a calm and clear reading, it's a pleasure to listen. And Father Ioann's choir on "Praise the Name of the Lord" came out well in the recording, thank you for the news.

It's good that they mentioned Hieromonk Macarius (Markish) - I also like how he reads, calmly and clearly. Father John's choir on "Praise the Name of the Lord" really came out strong, I listened to the recording. Thanks for the news.

I agree, Macarius always reads so soulfully, especially the Gospel. But Father John’s “Praise the Name of the Lord” really turned out to be particularly harmonious, and she even sang it at home later. Were you in the cathedral or watched it on the broadcast?

Yes, Macarius really reads in such a way that you immediately understand. And this time Father John’s voices on “Praise” literally merged into one, giving me goosebumps. Maria, did you notice how subdeacon Ilya Novikov held everything clearly?

Yes, Macarius always reads like he’s looking straight into your soul. And Ilya really had perfect order, not a single hitch, well done guy. Maria, what about you, did you stand closer to the choir this time or in the middle?

I agree, Macarius’s reading is always so insightful. Ilya is great, he really never lost his way. And this time I stood at the side chapel, closer to the icons, from there I could hear everything well.

Yes, Ilya is really great, I also noticed how smoothly he read. Was the Three-Handed Icon clearly visible from that side-chapel? Last time I stood there, but there were a lot of people, they were pushing.
