Song 9.
Song 9.
ᾨδὴ θ´.
Fasting is the day, let there be a putting away of sin, O soul, and a mania for God together, and an appropriation: so that you may flee the evil abyss, and love the very paths leading to that peace.
Soul, may the time of fasting become for you a rejection of sin and aspiration and communion with God, may you avoid the abysses of vice and strongly desire only the paths that lead to that [heavenly] peace.

And having crawled in my mind and sinned in the flesh, I weep and groan and cry out: save me, Lord, save me, O One Gentle One, and do not condemn me to the fire of Gehenna, condemnation worthy.
And having slipped in my thoughts and sinned in my flesh, [now] I mourn [this] and grieve, and exclaim: “Oh, save me, Lord, save me, the only one so patient and gentle, and do not condemn me to the fire of Gehenna, a condemnation worthy!”

We have put on a robe in the light of Lent, we have put on the clothes of dark and heavy drunkenness, and in the light of the former Divine virtues, the radiant Spasova, we will see suffering by faith.
Having put on the radiant robe of fasting, let us take off the unbearable black clothes of a hangover [from passion] and, shining with divine virtues, let us see with faith the radiant Passion of the Savior!

Theotokos: Exhausted by all the attacks of evil demons, heal my passionate soul, Most Pure Lady, Who gave birth to Christ the Healer, deliverance for us who lead Thee, the Maiden, the incorruptible Virgin.
Heal my pitiful soul, weakened by all the attacks* of the worst demons, O Pure Lady, Who gave birth to the Physician Christ - Redemption for us who know Your Bride, the Immaculate Virgin!
* Also, the word προσβολή in the ascetic sense can mean “addiction” - the first thought that attracts the soul to sin. (See Appendix)

Now the time has come for holy fasting, let us begin this in good conduct: for in courts and sedition do not fast, says.
Let us begin this favorable time of Holy Lent by turning to a good way of life: after all, [God] says* not to fast with quarrels and condemnation!
* see Isa.58:4

In Mount Horeb, let us fast and purify ourselves in the sight of God Elijah: let us also fast and purify our hearts and see Christ.
On Mount Horeb, Elijah, purified by fasting, saw God; Let us also cleanse our hearts through fasting and see Christ!

Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.
Trinity: I worship the One Nature, I sing the Three Persons, the One God of all, the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, the ever-present Beginning.
Glory... Trinity. I worship one nature, I glorify three Persons - the One God of all that is, [beings], the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, the Eternal Beginning and Dominion.*

And now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.
Theotokos: Pure, You gave birth, Virgin, you gave birth to milk: how did you give birth to virgins in these two days? God is the Creator, do not demand anything from Me.
And now... Theotokos. How do You give birth, O Pure One, and breastfeed, O Virgin, how do You preserve your virginity, giving birth to a Child? How are both combined in You? - “The one who created [this] is God, but how, don’t ask Me and don’t investigate!”
Καὶ νῦν…

Glory to Thee, our God, glory to Thee.
There is only one day, speaking, the life of all earthly people, who labor for love, the essence of which is fourty days of fasting, which we will accomplish in light.
Glory to Thee, our God, glory to Thee!
It is said that one day is the entire life of those born on earth for those who work out of love. There are forty days of Lent, and let's spend them brightly!

Irmos: Naturally the flesh conceived in the womb, from the Father the Word that rises without flight, in silent songs we magnify Vernia.
Irmos. She who, amazingly in [Her] womb, conceived according to the flesh the Word, before and outside of time Shining from the Father, we exalt with incessant hymns, O faithful ones.

The verse is self-vocal, voice five:
The poem contains a self-vocal stichera, tone 5.

Fasting has come, the mother of chastity, the accuser of sins, the preacher of repentance, the residence of Angels and the salvation of men, faithfully, let us cry out: God, have mercy on us.
Lent has arrived - the parent* of chastity and the accuser of [all] sin, the friend of repentance, the life of angels and the salvation of people. Let us exclaim, faithful: “Have mercy on us, O God!”
* In the original: “mother”; in Greek the word "fast" is feminine

Verse: In the morning we were filled with Thy mercy, O Lord, and we rejoiced and rejoiced, all our days we rejoiced, for the days in this day you humbled us, in the summer in this day we saw evil. And look upon Thy servants, and Thy works, and instruct their sons.
The post is coming...
Verse: Early in the morning we were filled with Your mercy, O Lord, and we rejoiced and were glad. All our days we have rejoiced: for the days in which You humbled us, for the years in which we saw evil. And look upon Thy servants and Thy works, and show the way to their sons. (Ps. 89:14–16)
And we repeat the same stichera. Lent has arrived...

Verse: And bring the lordship of the Lord our God upon us, and restore the work of our hands upon us, and restore the work of our hands.
Martyred: Blessed is the army of the Heavenly King, and even earthly beings were passion-bearers, but they tried to achieve the rank of angel, carelessly about their bodies, and with their passions incorporeal honor I'm worthy. Through their prayers, Lord, save our souls.
Verse: And may the light of the Lord our God be upon us, and may the works of our hands be corrected among us, and may the work of our hands be corrected. (Ps. 89:17)
