TUESDAY EVENING

The verse is self-vocal, voice 1:

Let us joyfully accept the faithful, God-inspired testament of fasting, just as the Ninevites did before: the packs, the harlots, and the publicans: even the sermon of repentance from John is. By abstinence let us prepare for the migration to Zion of the Master's priesthood. With tears let us purify ourselves in the divine spirit. Let us pray to see the figurative celebration of Easter here, and the true manifestations. Let us prepare for the worship of the Cross and the Resurrection of Christ God, crying out to Him: do not put us to shame because of our aspirations, the Lover of Mankind.

The poem is self-vocal, voice 1.

With great joy, faithful ones, let us accept the God-ordained Fast, as the Ninevites did before, and [as the fornicators and tax collectors accepted] the sermon of repentance from John! With abstinence, let us prepare to participate in the Lord’s sacred rites in Zion, with tears we will cleanse ourselves in advance before the divine Washing of [the feet] there, and we will pray to see here the fulfillment and true manifestation of [that] original Easter! Let us prepare ourselves to worship the Cross and Resurrection of Christ God, exclaiming to Him: “Do not disgrace us in our hope, O Lover of Mankind!”

(Δίς)

Verse: My eyes are lifted up to You, Who dwells in heaven. Behold, like the eyes of a servant are in the hand of his masters, like the eyes of a slave in the hand of her mistress: so are our eyes toward the Lord our God, until He will reward us today.

And again I will stichera.

Verse: I have lifted up my eyes to You, who dwells in heaven. Behold, as the eyes of slaves are turned to the hands of their masters, as the eyes of a slave are turned to the hands of her mistress, so our eyes are turned to the Lord our God, until He has pity on us. (Ps. 123:1–2)

And again the same stichera.

Verse: Lord have mercy on us, have mercy on us, for we are filled with humiliation in many ways: our soul is especially filled with the reproaches of the gobblers, and the humiliation of the proud.

Martyred: O good purchases of your saints! For you have given blood, and you have inherited Heaven: and having been tempted for a time, you rejoice forever. Truly your purchase is good: the corruptible has been left behind, the incorruptible has been received, and with the Angels you rejoice and sing unceasingly the Trinity of the Consubstantial.

Verse 2: Have mercy on us, O Lord, have mercy on us, for we are overflowing with contempt. Our soul is abundantly filled with reproach from the prosperous and contempt from the proud. (Ps. 122:1–2)

Martyred. O your wonderful accomplishment, saints! You gave your blood and inherited heaven and, having undergone a temporary trial, you rejoice forever. Truly beautiful is your exchange: having left the corruptible, you have received the incorruptible and, triumphant with the angels, you constantly sing the praises of the Consubstantial Trinity!

Glory, and now, the Holy Cross:

Similar to: Praises of the martyr:

The unclean virgin, who sometimes saw Him on the tree, who bore Him from a seedless womb, did not tolerate womb wounds, tormenting the hair with the verb: with mania, support all creation as it is You, condemned to the cross, were lifted up, in order to save humanity.

Glory, And now... The Holy Cross.

Similar to: All-praised martyrs...

The Immaculate Virgin, seeing Him born from a womb that did not accept seed, was tormented and unable to bear the mental pain and said: “O Ruler of all creation with [one] wave, how, condemned, were You hanged on the Cross, Desiring to completely save humanity?”

Slava, too. And now, the Holy Cross. Similar to:

Standing before Your cross, who without seed gave birth to Thee, and cannot bear to see You suffer unjustly, weeping with tears, and crying out to Thee: how you suffer by nature, impassive, sweetest Son; I sing Your extreme goodness.

Slava... the same [saddle]. And now... The Holy Cross, similar [the same].

Standing next to Your Cross, She who gave birth to You without seed, could not see You unjustly suffering, and grieved, weeping, and exclaimed to You: “How do You suffer, Impassive by nature, O My Sweetest Son? I sing of Your greatest goodness!”

ᾨδὴ αˊ

By fasting humanly, to our image, He defeats the tempter, showing us ours, and signing the limits to us.

The Lord, as a man, fasting as an example to us, defeats the Tempter, showing what is characteristic of us and depicting our goal.

The divine Moses on Sinai, through abstinence to God face to face, was vouchsafed the saying: We are jealous of his faithfulness.

Thanks to abstinence, the divine Moses on Sinai was honored to speak with God face to face. Let us begin to imitate him, faithful ones!

O Lord, cleanse Thy people, and having looked upon them as God with a merciful eye, visit them all with the abundance of Thy mercy.

Lord, be merciful to Your people and, turning Your merciful gaze like God, visit everyone in the riches of Your mercy!
