The meaning of this is this: remembering the voice of one crying in the wilderness: Repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand! I baptize you with water for repentance; but he who comes after me is stronger than I, I am not worthy to carry His boots. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. The spade is in His hand: and He will winnow the grain from His threshing floor, and gather His wheat into the barn, and burn the chaff with unquenchable fire! (Matthew 3:2, 11–12; Luke 3:9, 16–18); remembering the words of the farewell blessing of the Savior Himself before His ascension: Go and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you to the end of the age. Amen (Matt. 28:19–20). Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, and whoever does not believe will be condemned! (Mark 16:16), as well as His above words to Nicodemus and the words of Ap. Paul: All of you who were baptized into Christ have put on Christ! (Gal.3:27) - every Orthodox Christian must say with all his soul: I believe and confess in that one Baptism, which, as the gracious gift of Christ, having washed my body with water and the Spirit from the sins of my fallen ancestors, reborn me into rebirth, i.e.
into new life, clothed me in Christ, that is, made Him the son and heir of eternal life!
11th member. Tea of the resurrection of the dead.
The meaning of this is this: remembering the words of the Savior spoken to the Sadducees: And that the dead are raised, and Moses showed, speaking about the bush, when he calls the Lord the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob. God is not the God of the dead, but of the living! (Luke 20:37.); or the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and hearing they will live. (John 5:25); or the words He spoke to Martha (Lazarus’s sister): I am the resurrection and the life; He who believes in Me, even if he dies, will live! (John 11:25), and finally, he who eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life: and I will raise him up on the last day! (John 6:54) - every Orthodox Christian must say from the fullness of his heart: I believe and confess that on the day of Christ’s second coming to earth, according to His will, all those who have died since the beginning of the world will be resurrected, and will appear before Him for His Last Judgment.
12th member. And the life of the next century. Amen.
The meaning of this is as follows: remembering the teachings of Ap. Paul, saying: And just as we bore (during life) the image of the earthly, we will also bear the image of the Heavenly (i.e., Christ); but I will say that flesh and blood cannot inherit the Kingdom of God, and the physical does not inherit incorruptibility. I tell you a secret: we will not all die, but we will all be changed, suddenly, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet, for the trumpet will sound, and the dead will rise incorruptible, and we will be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruptibility, and this mortal must put on immortality! (Cor. 15:49–53); remembering the words of the Savior Himself, when He, in explaining the parable of the rich man and Lazarus, mentioning the torment of the first and the bliss of the second, said in the person of Abraham to the rich man: Remember that you prospered in your life, and Lazarus was in poverty, now he is comforted here, and you suffer (Luke 16:25); or, describing the bliss of the righteous, He cried: Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world (Matthew 25:34). Then the Righteous will shine like the sun in the Kingdom of their Father!
(Matthew 13:43): remembering all this, every Orthodox Christian must say with full faith and conviction: I believe and confess that for those who love God and fulfill His commandments, after their resurrection and judgment, there will come a life of eternal bliss, so great and inexplicable that the human mind cannot imagine it! I believe that everything said here (in the Symbol) is True!
