Genesis reading. [Gen.9:8–17]

God spoke to Noah, and to his son with him, saying: Behold, I have established my covenant with you, and with your seed after you, and with every soul that dwells with you, from the birds, and from livestock, and to every beast of the earth, the tree is with you [essence] from all those who came out of the ark. And I will establish my covenant with you: that all flesh shall not die by the water of a flood, and that there shall not be a deluge of waters until it consumes the whole earth. And the Lord God spoke to Noah: This is the sign of the covenant which I give between Me and you, and between every living soul that is with you throughout eternal generations: an arc I put mine in the cloud, and it will be as a sign of the [everlasting] covenant between Me and the earth. And when I bring clouds over the earth, My bow will appear in the cloud: And I will remember My covenant which is between Me and you, and between every soul that lives in every flesh, and no water shall become a flood, for all flesh shall be consumed. And My arc will be in the cloud: and I will see it, and I will remember the everlasting covenant between Me and the earth, and between every soul that dwells in all flesh, even there is earth.

And God said to Noah: This is the sign of the covenant that He has made between Me and all flesh that is on the earth.

Reading Genesis [9:8–17]

The Lord God spoke to Noah and his sons thus: “Behold, I have established my covenant for you and your descendants after you, and for every living creature that dwells with you, of the birds and of the livestock, and for every beast of the earth that is with you from among all that came out of the ark. And I will establish My covenant with you: and no more flesh shall die by the water of a flood, and no more shall a flood of waters lay waste the whole earth.” And the Lord God said to Noah: “This is the sign of the covenant that I establish between Me and you and every living soul that is with you for everlasting generations: I will establish My arc in the cloud, and it will be a sign of the covenant between Me and the earth. And when I bring clouds over the earth, My arc will appear in the cloud. And I will remember My covenant, which is between Me and you, and between every soul that dwells in all flesh, and the waters shall no longer be a flood to destroy all flesh: and My arc shall be in the cloud, and I will see it, to remember the everlasting covenant between Me and every soul that dwells in all flesh that is on the earth.”

And the Lord God said to Noah: “This is the sign of the covenant that I have established between Me and all flesh that is on the earth.”

Prokeimenon (Psalm 68), tone 6: Let Thy salvation, O God, accept me.

Verse: Let the poor see and be glad: seek God, and your soul will live.

Prokeimenon (Psalm 68), tone 6: May Your salvation, O God, reach me!

Verse: Let the poor see and rejoice! Thirst for God and your soul will live!

Reading parables. [Proverbs 12:8–22]

The mouth of a wise man comes with praise from his husband, but a weak-hearted man receives reproach. It is better for a husband to work dishonorably for himself than to deprive himself of honor and lose his bread. The righteous has mercy on the souls of his cattle, but the bellies of the wicked are unmerciful. Make your land, it will be filled with grain: but those who persecute vain things will lose their minds. Whoever is sweet in a wine-drinking state will leave dishonor in his strongholds. The desires of the wicked are evil, but the pious are rooted in steadfastness. Because of the sin of the walls, the sinner falls into the snare; but the righteous escapes from them. look meekly, you will receive mercy; but if you lie in the gate, you will offend souls. From the fruit of the lips the husband’s soul will be filled with good things: the reward of his lips will be given to him: Rule the path of the fools before them: the wise will listen to the advice. The crazy one confesses his sin: the cunning one covers up his dishonor. The revealed faith is proclaimed by the righteous: he is a witness of unrighteous flatteries. The point is, even those who speak hurt like swords, but the pagans heal the wise.

The mouth of truth corrects the testimony: but the witness is quick to speak unrighteously. There is flattery in the heart of the evil one: those who want peace will rejoice. Nothing unrighteous is pleasing to the righteous: but the wicked will be filled with wickedness. The mouth of a liar is an abomination to the Lord: but he who does what is faithful is pleasing to Him.

Reading the book of Proverbs [12:8–22]

The lips of the wise are praised by man, but the foolish are ridiculed. An ignorant person who works for himself is better than an ambitious person who needs bread. The righteous has pity on the life of his livestock, but the heart of the wicked is unmerciful. He who tills his land will be satisfied with bread, but those who strive for useless things are poor in understanding. Whoever finds pleasure in wasting time drinking wine will leave behind him dishonor in his fortresses. The desires of the wicked are evil, but the roots of the godly are in strongholds. For the sin of the lips the sinner falls into the snare, but the righteous escapes them. The one who looks meekly will receive mercy, and the one who meets at the gate drives people out. From the fruit of a man’s mouth his soul will be satisfied with good things, and the reward of his lips will be given to him. The ways of the foolish are right in their own eyes, but the wise listen to advice. A foolish man immediately reveals his anger, but a prudent man hides his offense. The righteous proclaims what is worthy of faith, but the witness of the unrighteous is deceitful. Some of those who speak wound as with swords, but the tongue of the wise heals.

Truthful lips give testimony, but a hasty witness has an unjust tongue. Deceit is in the heart of the attacker, but those who desire peace will rejoice. Nothing unjust is pleasant to the righteous, and the wicked will be filled with various evils. Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord, but he who does what is right is acceptable to Him.
