Irmos: The works of Thy watchfulness, O Lord, are the horror of the prophet Habakkuk: for thou hast gone out to save Thy people, thou hast come to save Thy anointed ones.

Irmos: The works of Your economy, Lord, shocked the prophet Habakkuk: after all, You came out to save Your people, You came to save Your anointed.

Song 8.

Song 8.

ᾨδὴ η´.

We fast from all sweetness, fattening the senses by fasting, and drink warmly of tenderness, singing: bless the works of the Lord, the Lord.

While fasting, we will abstain from any pleasure, fattening [spiritual] sensations with fasting, and we will eagerly drink the drink of contrition and chant: “Bless the Lord, you creatures of the Lord!”

* * *

Stand at the right hand of my fellow man and pray, when you sit down to judge a man with Christ, apostles, for the many sins and guilt of the guilty.

Pray that I, guilty of many sins and deserving of condemnation, will stand on the right side with other survivors, O Apostles, when you sit down with Christ to judge people!

* * *

Having purified ourselves by fasting, let us mount onto the chariot of the divine virtues and fix our minds on the aerial heights, singing: bless the works of the Lord, the Lord.

Having purified ourselves by fasting, let us mount the chariot of divine virtues and having inspired our minds, we will lift it to the heavenly heights and sing: “Bless the Lord, you creatures of the Lord!”

* * *

Theotokos: Thou art unburnt by the fire that gave birth to the Divinity, the Virgin: but the passions of the souls who by faith sang to Thee the voice of the Angels fell, bringing one joy to the Intercessor.

Theotokos. Having given birth to the Deities of Fire, You remained unscorched, O Virgin, but the passions of the souls of those who pronounce words to You with the faith of an Angel, the only intercessor of joy, fell!

Another three-song:

With the trumpet of the Spirit, Christ's disciples sing hymns and cry: bless the works of the Lord, the Lord.

* * *

As the prayer books of the world, and the deceits of the persecutors, the disciples of Christ: bless, crying out, the works of the Lord, the Lord.

As mediators for peace and persecutors of deception, we sing praises to the disciples of Christ, exclaiming: “Bless the Lord, you works of the Lord!”

Theotokos. All of us, people, sing with piety the Ineffable One born of You, crying out, O Pure One: “Bless the Lord, you creatures of the Lord!”

Καὶ νῦν…

Glory to Thee, our God, glory to Thee.

Cast aside into the deep abyss of sweets, I call upon the abyss of Your benevolence: Helmsman, save me.

Having plunged myself [previously] into the immense abyss of pleasures, [now] I call upon the abyss of Thy kindness: “Save me, [my] Pilot!”

* * *

Source of compassion, give me now tenderness and sighing, so that the immeasurable sea may weep for my evil ones.

O Source of kindness, give me now contrition, lamentation, so that I may mourn the vast seas of my sins!

Another three-song.

Another three-song.

From the sources of the prophetically Savior, who drew the water of immortality more than the apostles, those who thirst for the traditions of life will always drink it.

The Apostles always give water to the thirsty with the teachings of life, drawing water of immortality from the springs of the Savior, as the prophet predicted*.

*See Isa.12:3
