(Holiday one week before Easter)

The general resurrection / before Your passion was assured, / You raised Lazarus from the dead, O Christ God. / Likewise, we, like the children of victory who bear the sign, / We cry out to You, the Conqueror of death: / Hosanna in the highest, // Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord.

In Russian

Having affirmed the general resurrection before Your suffering, You raised Lazarus from the dead, Christ God. Therefore, we, like (Jewish) children wearing signs of victory, exclaim to You, the Conqueror of death: salvation from heaven, blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord.

Passion is suffering. Like youths - like youths. Hosanna in the highest is salvation from heaven.

This troparion says that by raising Lazarus our Savior assured us of the general resurrection. And we are called to greet Him as the Conqueror of death.

Who is Lazarus, resurrected by the Savior?

He was a pious man who lived near Jerusalem (in Bethany) with his two sisters, Martha and Mary. The Lord loved this pious family and often stayed with them. Shortly before the Savior's suffering, Lazarus fell ill and died. Lazarus had already been lying in the grave for four days, and the Lord raised him up.

What do the words: signs of victory mean?

These are the branches with which the Jews usually greeted the victors.
