Irmos: King Christ, Whom the youth confessed in captivity, in the cave saying with a great voice, all that you do, sing to the Lord.

Song 8

Irmos: The captive youths confessed King Christ in the oven, loudly exclaiming: “All creatures, sing praises to the Lord!”

ᾨδὴ ηˊ

* * *

Having first fasted, Joseph will avoid the affair of a lawless woman, and improve the kingdom. In the same way, we will quench the kindled arrows of the enemy Belial with mercy.

Joseph, who had previously fasted, avoided a relationship with a lawless woman and received the kingdom; Therefore, let us also extinguish with the help of fasting the flaming arrows of the enemy Belial!

* * *

By pardoning David, bring victory to the foreigner, and you will gain the kingdom: in the same way, we too, through abstinence, will receive victory over our enemies, and we will be crowned in the Lord.

Thanks to fasting, David won victory over foreigners and acquired a kingdom; therefore, through abstinence, may we defeat our enemies and be crowned with the Lord!

* * *

Let us also preserve their virtues, the courage of Job, the kindness of Jacob, the faith of Abraham, the chastity of Joseph, and the valor of David.

May we also observe the virtues of [the fathers]: the courage of Job, the simplicity of Jacob, the faith of Abraham, the self-control of Joseph and the valor of David!

* * *

Theotokos: Christ the King, Whom the Virgin Mary gave birth to us, and after the Nativity the pure Virgin remains, sing to all the works of the Lord, and exalt Him forever.

Theotokos: Sing forever, all the creatures of the Lord, the Lord - King Christ, Born for us by the Virgin Mary, Who remained a Pure Virgin even after the Nativity!

Also a different three-song. Irmos: Into the fiery furnace:

Then the three-song. Irmos: Into the fiery furnace...

With the sign of the Cross, Moses raised his hands on the mountain, conquering his enemies: You, the Savior, stretched out your hand on the cross, put to death the all-destructive torment of hell.

Moses, on the mountain, raising [his] hands in the form of a cross, put his enemies to flight, but You, O Savior, spreading your hands on the Cross, put to death the disastrous tyranny of hell.

* * *

Nailed to the cross with nails, and pierced in the ribs, O Christ my Savior, you have delivered the curses of the earth-born, and you have shown endless joy to your fellow-men: let us also bless you Thy love for mankind.

You, nailed to the Cross and pierced in the rib, Christ, my Savior, delivered those born on earth from the curse and made them partakers of unceasing joy: therefore we glorify Your love for mankind!

* * *

The time of abstinence that rises up mentally enlightens the soul's feelings, and drives away the darkness of passions: therefore, let us kiss this from the heart, exalting it forever.

Having risen [like the sun], the time of abstinence invisibly illuminates the spiritual feelings and drives away the darkness of passions, and therefore let us heartily welcome it, exalting Christ!

* * *

Fasting kills the all-destructive passions of the soul, the deadly sweets, and truly in constant action creates the heart’s aspirations and movements: this we will accept with faith.

Fasting kills the disastrous passions of the soul and deadly pleasures and tames the heart impulses and aspirations of those who remain in constancy [of feat]. so let us undertake it with faith and diligence!

* * *

The present holy day of the faithful has not yet begun, so let us honor this with pure thoughts, but the entrance in words, and the coming to the threshold of the fast.

Knowing that the present holy time [only] precedes Lent, let us not honor it [in itself], maintaining clarity of reasoning, but let us consider it the entrance and entry into the threshold of Lent!

* * *

The right hand of the God-loving soul receives the preparatory steps of a good fast, pre-cleansing honors, the venerable one, with degrees and a ladder, to which the present day will be added.

Beautiful Lent [now] graciously greets the God-loving soul with the first purifying gifts, offering it today as the foundation and the first steps [of further ascent].

* * *

Theotokos: Open to those who interpret us, and to those who call upon Thy mercy, a quick refuge for men, and a steadfast helper in all, and a known Intercessor to those in need.

Theotokos: Open to us, who knock and cry out for Your mercy, O quickly [Giving] shelter to people, Reliable Helper in everything and in disasters, Faithful Intercessor!

Other. Irmos: In the bush to Moses:

Another three-song. Irmos: In the bush to Moses...

* * *

Ascend to the cross of all, Master, You called Adam and Her again, and You brought into paradise Christ the Savior, Who sing Your praises to all ages.

Having been hanged on the Cross, You, the Lord of all things, called back Adam and Eve and brought them into paradise, Christ the Savior, who sing Your praises throughout all ages.

* * *

You, Christ, ascended to the cross by will, the rays of the sun were darkened with fear, and the day went down: from here you are the thief of God, confessed forever.

When You were voluntarily ascended on the Cross, Christ, then in fear the sun hid the light, and the day grew dark, and therefore the thief confessed You as God for all ages.

Let us bless the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, the Lord.

Trinity: Equal to the Father of the Son, and the Holy Spirit to be the believer of the Holy Trinity in the One Divinity: We worship Her by faith, forever trampling on the Aryan teaching.

Let us bless the Father, and the Son and the Holy Spirit, the Lord!

Trinitarian: We believe that the Son and the Holy Spirit are equal to the Father - the Holy Trinity in one Godhead. We worship her with faith, constantly trampling on the teachings of Arius.

* * *

Theotokos: As I will sing to You, as befits the Virgin Mary, I am now darkened by stinking sins; but Most Holy One, forgive my boldness and my poor singing.
