We thank Thee, Christ our God, for Thou hast filled us with Thy earthly blessings; Do not deprive us of Your Heavenly Kingdom, but as You came in the midst of Your disciples, Savior, giving them peace, come to us and save us.
+ But as you came among your disciples, O Savior, giving them peace, come to us and save us. The words of the prayer refer us to the Gospel of Luke, which describes how, when the disciples were discussing the amazing testimony of Luke and Cleopas about the meeting with the Risen Lord, Jesus Himself stood in the midst of them and said to them: peace be with you, and then, in order to convince them of the authenticity of His Resurrection, he took the fish and honeycombs with honey given by the disciples and ate before them (see: Luke 24: 36-43).
So, in this prayer we thank the Lord for filling us with food and drink, and we ask that He not deprive us of His Heavenly Kingdom.
