This is what the Lord says: Where is He who brought up from the earth the shepherd of His sheep? where is He who put the Holy Spirit in them? The right hand of Moses raised up the arm of His glory, dividing the water before him, making His name forever. I will lead them through the abyss, like a horse through the desert, and not bother. And like cattle in the field, the Spirit from the Lord came down and taught them: thus have you led your people, to make a glorious name for you. Turn, O Lord, from heaven, and see from Thy holy house and Thy glory: where is Thy zeal and Thy strength? Where is the abundance of Thy mercy, and Thy bounties, as Thou hast endured us? For You are our Father, before Abraham led us away, and Israel did not know us: but You, O Lord our Father, deliver us; From the beginning Your name is upon us. Why have You turned us away, O Lord, from Your path, and hardened our hearts so that we do not fear You? Turn for the sake of Your servants, for the sake of the tribes of Your heritage. Yes (for now) we will inherit a little of Your holy mountain. Our adversaries have trampled upon Your holiness.
Having been from time immemorial, when You did not rule over us, below is Your name called upon us. If you open the sky, the mountains will tremble from You, and they will melt, as wax melts in the presence of fire, and the fire will burn the adversaries, and Your name will be revealed in Your opponents: from Your presence The nations will be in turmoil when You have done this glorious thing, and the mountains will tremble from You. From time immemorial we have not heard, but our eyes have seen God, who is You, and Your works, which You have done to those who are waiting for mercy. For mercy will overwhelm those who do righteousness, and Your ways will be remembered.
Reading the prophecy of Isaiah [63:11b–19; 64:1–5a]
Thus says the Lord: Where is he who brought up the shepherd of his sheep from the land? Where is the One who put the Holy Spirit in them and brought Moses out by the right hand? His glorious hand divided the water before his face to create for Him an everlasting name. She led them through the abyss, like a horse through the desert, and they were not tired, and like a herd through a field, and they were not afraid; and the Spirit came from the Lord and led them along the way. This is how You led Your people in order to create for Yourself a glorious name. Look from heaven, O Lord, and look from Thy holy house and Thy glory: where is the abundance of Thy mercy and Thy mercies, that Thou didst not cease for our sake, O Lord? For You are our Father: Abraham knew us not, neither did Israel know us; but You, Lord our Father, deliver us, from time immemorial Your name abides on us. Why did You, Lord, lead us astray from Your path, and harden our hearts so as not to fear You? Turn for the sake of Your servants, for the sake of the tribes of Your inheritance, so that we may soon inherit Your holy mountain: our enemies have trampled down Your sanctuary. We have become as in the beginning, when You did not control us, and we were not called by Your name.
If You open the sky, the mountains will shake from You and melt, like wax melts from fire, and the fire will consume Your opponents, and Your name will be revealed to Your enemies; At Your presence the nations will be in turmoil. When You accomplish glorious deeds, the mountains will tremble because of You. From time immemorial we have not heard, nor have our eyes seen, a god but You; and Your works are true and You will show mercy to those who wait for You. For mercy will meet those who do justice, and they will remember Your ways.
Reading the prophecies of Jeremiah (Jer.31:31–34).
This is what the Lord says: These days are coming, and I will make a new covenant for the house of Israel and for the house of Judah. Not according to the covenant that their fathers commanded, on the day that I took them by the hand, I brought them out of the land of Egypt, because they did not abide in My covenant, and I neglected them, says the Lord, For this is the covenant that I have made to the house of Israel, from these days the Lord says: I have given My laws in their minds, and I will write them on their hearts, and I will be their God, and they will be Me for a people. And he shall not teach every man his neighbor, and every man his brother, the verb, Know the Lord, for all shall know Me, from the least of them even unto the greatest of them: for I will be merciful to their iniquities; I will not remember their sins to anyone.
Reading the prophecy of Jeremiah [31:31–34]
Thus says the Lord: Behold, the days are coming when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah, not such a covenant as I made with their fathers on the day when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, because they did not continue in my covenant, and I despised them, says the Lord. For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws in their minds and write them on their hearts, and I will be their God, and they will be My people. And every man shall not teach his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, “Know the Lord,” for they all know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them, says the Lord; because I will be merciful to their iniquities, and I will remember their sins no more.
