This is the word of the Lord against the Assyrian king: he will not enter this city, below he will shoot an arrow, below he will lay a shield, below he will fence around it with a fence: But by Whenever he comes, he will return, and will not enter this city. This is the word of the Lord: I will defend this city to save it for my sake, and for the sake of David my servant. And the Angel of the Lord went out, and slew from the Assyrian army one hundred and eighty-five thousand: and when he arose in the morning, he found that the whole body was dead. And from there Sennacherib, king of Assyria, returned and dwelt in Nineveh: And when he worshiped him in the house of Nasarach, his fatherland commander, Adramelech and Saraser killed his sons Sword him, you yourself fled to Armenia, and Asordan his son reigned in his place. And Hezekiah turned his face to the wall, and prayed to the Lord, saying: Remember, Lord, how I have walked before You with truth and a true heart, and have created what is pleasing before You, and Hezekiah weeps with great weeping. And the word of the Lord came to Isaiah with the words: Go, and say to Hezekiah: Thus saith the Lord, the God of thy father David: I have heard thy prayer, and hath seen thy tears, behold I am adding to your summer, about fifty years. And from the hand of the king of Assyria I will deliver you and this city, and I will protect this city.

Reading the prophecy of Isaiah [37:33–38; 38:1–6]

This is what the Lord Almighty says about the king of Assyria: “He will not enter this city, nor shoot an arrow at it, nor erect a shield against it, nor build a rampart around it. But he will return the way he came, but he will not enter this city,” says the Lord. “I will defend this city to save it because of Me and because of David My servant.” And the angel of the Lord went out and destroyed one hundred and eighty-five thousand from the Assyrian camp, and when they arose in the morning, they found all the bodies dead. And Sennacherib king of Assyria retreated and returned and settled in Nineveh. And when he was worshiping his patron Nasarach in the church, Adramelech and Sarasar, his sons, killed him with a sword, and they themselves fled to Armenia, and Nahordan his son reigned in his stead. At that time, Hezekiah fell mortally ill, and Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amos, came to him and said to him: “Thus says the Lord: “Make a will about your house, for you are dying and will not live.” And Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the Lord, saying: “Remember, Lord, that I walked before You faithfully and with a blameless heart and did what was right in Your sight.”

And Hezekiah wept bitterly. And the word of the Lord to Isaiah was this: “Go and tell Hezekiah: “Thus says the Lord God of David your father: I have heard your prayer and seen your tears, behold, I will add fifteen years to your years. And from the hand of the king of Assyria I will deliver you and this city, and I will defend this city.”
