Grant me, O Lord, Thy flesh according to Thy will; and let not the fire that burneth unworthily fall upon me, my fellow-servant: rather go into my fastings, into all my compositions, into my belly, into my heart. Let the thorns of all my transgressions pierce thee. Purify my soul, cleanse my thoughts. Firmly establish my compositions with bones together. Enlighten my simple understanding with a five-fingered hand. With fear of Thy dread, wholly encompass me. Ever cover me, keep me, and preserve me from every work and word of the flesh. Cleanse me, wash me, and adorn me: beautify me, enlighten me, and make me clear. Show me Thy one light alone; let there be no other light of sin for me. As to Thy house, may I enter by the entrance of Thy consecration, as the fire that pursueth me driveth away all sweetness, all passion. The monks offer unto Thee all their holy offices, and the incorporeal powers with their wise apostles, to this same unblemished reading: receive my prayers, O most bountiful, and make me a son of Thy light, Thy servant. For Thou art the anointed one, and the only brightness of our souls and light; and unto Thee we send all glory, praise, and honour throughout every day.
