Grant me, O Lord, Thy flesh according to Thine will; and let not the fire that burneth suddenly consume me, my fellow-servant: rather pass through my sorrows, all their compositions, in my belly, in my heart. Pierce with thorns all the transgressions of mine. Purify my soul, cleanse my thoughts. Firmly establish my compositions with my bones together. Enlighten my simple spirit with a single finger. With the greatest fear, cover me; keep and preserve me from every work and word of the flesh. Cleanse, wash, and adorn me: make me good, wise, and enlighten me. Show me Thy one light alone, and let no other light of sin shine upon me. That I may enter into Thy house by the entrance of the Eucharist, as the fire that pursueth me driveth away all sweetness, every passion. The monks offer to Thee all their holy offices; and with them, O pure reader, read Thou Thy unspotted psalter: receive my prayers, O most merciful, and make me a son of light, Thy servant. For Thou art the true Light, and the only brightness of our souls; and to Thee we send forth glory, honour, and worship, every day.
