Grant me, O Lord, Thy flesh according to Thy will; and fire that burneth the unworthy: let not mine unworthiness quench Thee, my fellow-servant. Rather pass into my sorrows, into all my compositions, into my belly, into my heart. Pierce Thou with thorns all my sins. Purify my soul, cleanse my thoughts. Firmly establish my compositions with bones together. Enlighten me with the simple fire of the five wicks. With fear of Thy dread I am fastened. Ever cover me, keep me, and preserve me from every work and word of the flesh. Purify me, wash me, and adorn me: beautify me, enlighten me, and make me clear. Show me Thy one light alone; and let not any other light of sin be in me. That I may enter into Thy house by the entrance of partaking, as the fire fleeth from every sweet thing, all passions. All thy monks offer to Thee all their services, and the angelic powers, through Thine own wisdom, read Thy unspotted book: receive my prayers, O most merciful, and make me a servant of Thy light. For Thou art the effulgence, and the only brightness of our souls; and to Thee we send every day both glory and praise.
