Grant me, O Lord, Thy flesh according to Thine will; and the fire that burneth the unworthy: let it not consume me, my fellow-servant. Rather pass through my sorrows, all their compositions, in my belly, in my heart. Let the thorns of all my transgressions pierce thee. Purify my soul, cleanse my thoughts. Firmly establish my compositions with bones together. Enlighten me with a simple five-fingered hand. With fear of Thy dread I am fastened. Ever cover me, keep me, and preserve me from every work and word of the flesh. Cleanse me, wash me, adorn me: beautify me, understand me, enlighten me. Show me Thy one light alone; let there be no other light of sin for me. That I may enter into Thy house by the entrance of Thy consecration, as the fire that pursueth me is sweet to all sweetness, every passion. The monks offer unto Thee all their services, and the incorporeal powers, with wise apostles, to this pure reading: receive my prayers, O goodly tabernacle, and make me a son of Thy light, Thy servant. For Thou art the effulgence, and the only brightness of our souls; and to Thee we send forth glory, honor, and worship, every day.
