Grant me, O Lord, Thy flesh according to Thine will; and let not the fire that burneth unworthily fall upon me, my helper: rather go into my sorrows, into all my compositions, into my belly, into my heart. Pierce thou with thorns all my sins. Purify my soul, cleanse my thoughts. Harden my compositions with bones together. Enlighten me with a simple five-fingered hand. With the greatest fear, cover me, keep me, and preserve me from every work and word of the fleshly life. Purify me, wash me, adorn me: accept me, enlighten me, and make me wise. Show me Thy one light alone, and not another light of sin. That I may enter into Thy house by the entrance of the Eucharist, as the fire that pursueth me fleeth every sweetness, every passion. Monks offer to Thee all the saints, the chief of the bodiless ones, wise apostles, with their unblemished reading: and receive my pious prayers, O my Lord, and make me a son of light Thy servant. For Thou art the true image, and the only Light of our souls; and unto Thee we send all glory throughout every day.
