Catching the enemy with tender-hearted memories, and short-scorching feelings with intemperance of sweetness, we strive to mortify with diligent prayer, singing, blessing and exalting Christ forever.

Let us try to kill the enemy who lies in wait [for us] with thoughts of delicacies and intemperance for the sake of the brief pleasure of an enchanting feeling with constant prayer, chanting, blessing and exalting Christ forever!

Theotokos: Who has enraged our earthly Youth with confusion, who has reined in my frozen and decayed soul, with the clouds of Your bounties, show me fruitful virtues to those who cry, and exalt Christ in eyelids.

Theotokos: Having made our composition, mixed on earth, part of heaven, You, Virgin, [irrigate] with the shower of Your mercies the desolate and overgrown field of my soul and show them to bear the fruits of virtues, may they cry out and exalt Christ forever!

Let us purify ourselves today, not only in our daily lives, but also in our deeds, and let us begin our faithfulness with a warm thought: may we appear to the Creator of light forever.

Now let us begin to purify ourselves in advance, not only in food, but also in deeds, and let us begin [to this], faithful ones, with fervor of spirit, so that we may appear before the Creator shining forever!

* * *

It is fitting for us to fast, not in enmity and abuse, not in envy and zeal, not in vanity and secret flattery, but like Christ, in humility.

This is how we should fast: without hatred and quarrels, without enmity and envy, without vanity and double-mindedness, but, like Christ, in humility.

* * *

Those who are merciful, a beggar’s speech, give back to the Savior wisely. Incomparable joy! He gives rich rewards to the good, forever and ever.

Those who show mercy to the poor, as the Savior said, lend to Him wisely. O incomparable joy: He generously rewards good deeds - for all ages!

* * *

Let us bless the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, the Lord.

Trinity: Glory to the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit: One God, three. Together with the Angels, people unceasingly praise Thee, All-Holy Trinity: to all ages.

Let us bless the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit of the Lord.

Trinity: Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit: for Three are one God! Together with the angels, we mortals continually glorify You, All-Holy Trinity, throughout all ages!

* * *

Theotokos: Rejoice, pure Virgin Mary, purifier of the world, Orthodox horns, pray to be delivered from the unquenchable fire, who glorify Thee forever.

Theotokos: Rejoice, Pure Virgin, Mother of God Mary, Reconciliation for the world, Strength (literally: Horn) of the Orthodox! Pray for salvation from the unquenchable fire of those who glorify You forever!

* * *

We praise, bless, and worship the Lord:

Irmos: In the bush of Moses the Virgin miracle, on the Mount of Sinai, who sometimes typified, sing, bless and exalt for all ages.

We praise, we bless, we worship the Lord...

Irmos: In the bush of Moses on Mount Sinai, Who showed the wonderful prototype of the Virgin, sing, bless and exalt throughout all ages!

Irmos: You, the Burning Bush...

Open to us the mercy of Your most pure womb, repentance by man for salvation granted alone by the most merciful Savior.

Open for us the pure receptacle of Your mercy, O only most merciful Savior, who has granted repentance to mortals for salvation!

* * *

Woe to me, what a terrible, unwashed judgment, on which the imams of the Nazis create the word, and who have committed evil in their lives;

Woe is me! Oh, this awe-inspiring and incorruptible Court, where we, naked, have to give our answer for everything that we have done evil in life!

* * *

Give us a drop of blessings to the Benefactor, drowning all our filth, giving us the guilt of repentance.

O Benefactor, pour on us the rain of Your kindness, washing away all our dirt, and let us begin repentance!

* * *

With all our diligent hearts, on the eve of Holy Lent the light has come, let us bring songs of thanksgiving to Christ.

All of us, decisively and with cheerfulness of heart, having jointly entered on the eve of Holy Lent, we will bring songs of thanksgiving to Christ!

* * *

Theotokos: You, the strong Representative, and the well-known hope, singing piously, we pray: pray to Your Son, the Virgin, to save us.

Theotokos: We earnestly pray to You, the mighty Protection and unchanging Hope, piously singing: diligently ask Your Son to save us!

* * *

Other. Irmos: Your virginity, Mother of God, undefiled:

Another three-song. Irmos: We always magnify Your virginity...

Now let us purify ourselves through fasting and tears and great corrections, so that we may find great mercy.

Let us now purify ourselves in advance with fasting, tears and many good deeds in order to receive great mercy!

* * *

Now let us imitate the wise virgins who love Christ, and strive to see Christ with the bright lights.

Let us now begin to imitate the Wise Virgins, O lovers of Christ, and let us try to meet Him halfway with burning lamps!

* * *

Now we imitate Elijah, who fasted and fled from the evil Jezebel, so that we may be lifted up from the earth.

Let us now begin to imitate Elijah, who fasted and fled from the vicious Jezebel, so that we might be raised up from the earth!
