ON SUNDAY (cheese cake) AT EVENING

Creation of Mister Joseph. Verses, second voice.

Master Joseph's creation. Stichera, tone 2.

* * *

By abstinence we will all strive to humble the body, we will seek the divine transitory field of immaculate fasting and by prayers and tears of the Lord who saves us, and we will create oblivion of wickedness for all eternity, crying out: You have sinned, save, like the Ninevites of old, Christ the King, and create us as fellow-partners of the Heavenly Kingdom of Grace.

Let us all try to humble the flesh by abstinence, entering the divine distance of pure Lent, and with tears and prayers we will begin to seek the saving Lord, and we will consign vice to complete oblivion, crying out: “We have sinned before You, save [us], King Christ, like the Ninevites in ancient times, and introduce us to the Kingdom of Heaven, O Kindhearted One!”

I despair of myself, considering my deeds, Lord, worthy of all torment: behold, having despised Thy honorable Saviour, the commandments, my life of fornication is spent. I also pray, having cleansed me with clouds of repentance, by fasting and prayer, as the only merciful one, enlighten me, and do not disdain me, the Benefactor of all, and the Most Gracious.

I despair of myself, Lord, when I think about the deeds I have committed, worthy of any punishment: after all, having ignored Your holy commandments, my Savior, I wasted my life in immorality. And therefore I beg: do not despise me, O Only Merciful One, but with a shower of repentance, fasting with prayers, cleanse and adorn me, O Benefactor of all and Most Good!

In Mr. Theodore, the same voice. Similar to: More than the mind of gifts:

Let us begin the Lenten time with light, having committed ourselves to spiritual deeds, cleanse our souls, cleanse our flesh, let us fast as we do in food from all passions, enjoying virtues spirit: in the midst of love, so that we may all be worthy to see the all-honorable passion of Christ God and Holy Pascha, spiritually rejoicing.

Another stichera of Mr. Theodore, the same voice. Similar to: Gifts that surpass understanding...

Let us begin the Lenten time, beaming with joy; Let us surrender ourselves to spiritual struggle: let us wash our soul and cleanse our flesh, let us abstain from all passion, just as we fast in food, enjoying the virtues of the Spirit! And by loving them, may we all be worthy to see in spiritual joy the universally revered Passion of Christ God and Holy Pascha!

Verse: Thirst for God and your soul will live!

The verse is self-vocal, tone four:

Your grace has arisen, Lord, the enlightenment of our souls has arisen. This is an acceptable time, this is the time of repentance, let us put aside the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light: for having swam across the great deep, on the third day of Resurrection we will reach the Lord and Our Savior Jesus Christ, who saves our souls.

On the poem the next one is self-vocal, tone 4

Your grace has shone, Lord, the light has shone for our souls: now the favorable time [has arrived], here it is, the time of repentance! Let us reject the works of darkness and put on the armor of light, so that, having crossed the great sea of Lent, we can reach the three-day Resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, the Savior of our souls!

Verse: My eyes are lifted up to You, who dwells in heaven. Behold, like the eyes of a servant in the hand of his masters, like the eyes of a slave in the hand of her mistress, so our eyes are toward the Lord our God, until He will spare us.

And we repeat the same.

Verse: I have lifted up my eyes to You, who dwells in heaven. Behold, as the eyes of slaves are turned to the hands of their masters, as the eyes of a slave are turned to the hands of her mistress, so our eyes are turned to the Lord our God, until He has pity on us. (Ps. 122:1–2)

And again the same self-agreement: Your grace has shone, Lord...

The same verse: Lord, have mercy on us, have mercy on us, for we are filled with humiliation in many ways: our soul is especially filled with the reproaches of the gobblers, and the humiliation of the proud.

And martyr: Glorified in the remembrance of Thy saints, O Christ God, we beseech them to bestow upon us great mercy.

Then the verse: Have mercy on us, O Lord, have mercy on us, for we are overflowing with contempt. Our soul is abundantly filled with reproach from the prosperous and contempt from the proud. (Ps 122:3–4)

And martyr. Glorified in the memories [of the exploits] of Your saints, O God Christ, from above, through their persistent prayers, send us great mercy!

Glory, and now, the Mother of God, the voice is the same.

Similar to: Like a doble:

The angels glorify Thee, Our Lady of God: / For the All-Pure One gave birth to God, / To the Father and the Spirit is co-essential, / And the angelic host was created by will from things that do not exist. / Pray to Him to save from aphids and enlighten the souls of the Orthodox, / Those who praise You, O All-Pure One.

Glory... and now... Theotokos, the same voice.

Like: Like a noble martyr...

Hosts of Angels glorify You, O Mother of God, for You, the All-Holy One, gave birth to God, who abides with the Father and the Spirit, and who called the angelic troops to life by [Your] will from the non-existent. Pray to Him to save and enlighten the souls of those who chant You Orthodoxy, O All-Pure One!

Καὶ νῦν…
