(September 8 holiday)

Your Nativity, O Virgin Mother of God, / proclaim joy to the whole universe: / from you the Sun of righteousness, Christ our God, has risen, / and having destroyed the oath, given blessing, // and having abolished death, given us life eternal.

In Russian

Your birth, Virgin Mary, announced joy to the entire universe (to the entire inhabited world); for from You has risen the Sun of righteousness - Christ our God; having destroyed the curse, He gave us blessing and, having overthrown death, gave us eternal life.

An oath is a curse, God's punishment for sins. Having abolished - weakened, deposed.

What is this troparion about?

That the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary brought joy to people; because from Her Jesus Christ was born, who destroyed curse and death and gave us eternal blissful life.

Why is Jesus Christ called the Sun of Truth?

Because He, like the sun illuminating the earth, enlightens every person with the light of true faith.
