Grant me, O God, my prayer, and do not despise my supplication. Hearken to me, and answer me: I have sorrowed with my soul, and was moved from the voice of the adversary and from the heat of sinners. For they have turned away from me in lawlessness, and in wrath they have fought against me. My heart is troubled within me, and fear of death has fallen upon me. Fear and trembling have come upon me, and darkness covers me. And I said: Who will give to me wings like a dove, and comfort and rest; all have fled away, running, and I have been established in the wilderness. I cried out to God, the Saviour of my soul from weakness and from tempest. You have drowned the ungodly with floods, and divided their tongues, for I saw lawlessness and rebellion in the city. Day and night it will be and by the walls thereof: lawlessness and travail are in the midst thereof, and injustice: and there is no relief from its harvest of evil and deceit. For though the enemy reproached me, I would have endured; and though the hater of me spoke exceeding proudly, I would have opened my mouth against him. Thou, O man, art indifferent, my Lord, known to me: with whom thou didst take pleasure in drinking wine with me, walking in one mind in thy house. Let death come upon thee, and let the living go down into hell: for wickedness is in their dwellings, by them: I called on God, and He heard me. Evening and morning and noon I will proclaim, and declare, and His voice shall hear me. He will deliver my soul from those who draw near to me: for many were with me. He hears, and will humble him, he is even before the ages: there is no change in them, for they have not feared God. Stretch out thy hand for recompense, thou hast defiled His covenant. Thou hast separated thyself from the wrath of His face, and hast brought near their hearts: their words are softer than oil, yet are they sharp. Turn to God in sorrow, and He will make thee drink, he will not give to the righteous man silence for ever. Thou, O God, hast brought down my soul into a pit. Men of blood and deceit shall not have days of their own: but I trust in Thee.
