Thou hast inspired my prayer, and despise not my supplication. Hear me, and answer me: I have mourned with sorrow of heart, and feared the voice of the adversary and the vexation of sinners. For they have turned aside from me in lawlessness, and in wrath they have fought against me. My heart is troubled within me, and fear of death has assailed me. Fear and trembling have come upon me, and darkness has covered me. And I said: Who shall give to me wings as unto a dove, and comfort and rest; all these have fled away, running here and there, and I have dwelt in the wilderness.

I thirsted for Thee, O Saviour, who savest me from weakness and from tempest. Thou hast drowned the waters, and divided their tongues, for I saw lawlessness and contradiction in the city. Day and night it shall be with Him: lawlessness and toil are in the midst of Him, and unrighteousness; and there is no defence against His reaping and deceit. For though the enemy reproached me, I would have endured for Thee: and though the hater of me spoke proudly against me, I would have opened myself up to him. Thou, O my Lord, who art indifferent, known to me: with whom thou didst enjoy a draught together in the house of God, walking in one mind. Let death come upon thee, and let the living descend into hell: for wickedness is in their dwellings, in the midst of them; I called to Thee, O Lord, and Thou didst hear me.

Evening and morning and noon I shall proclaim, and announce, and the voice of mine shall be heard. He will deliver my soul from those who draw near unto me: for many were with me. Thee doth hear, and humbleth him, even before the ages; for there is no change in them, for they have not feared Thee. Stretch forth Thy hand to receive recompense, they have defiled the covenant of Him. They have separated themselves from the wrath of His face, and have brought near their hearts: their words are softer than oil, yet are they swords. Turn upon the Lord thy sorrow, and it shall be for thee, not giving in the age everlasting to the righteous.

Thou, O Lord, hast brought down my soul into a pit of corruption. Men of blood and deceit shall not prolong days: but I trust in Thee.
