Grant me, O God, my prayer, and do not despise my supplication. Hearken to me, and answer me: I have sorrowed with my soul, and have been moved by the voice of the adversary and by the heat of sinners. For they have turned aside from me in lawlessness, and in wrath they have fought against me. My heart is troubled within me, and fear of death has fallen upon me. Fear and trembling have come upon me, and darkness has covered me. And I said: Who will give to me wings like a dove, and comfort and rest; all have fled from me, running away, and I have been established in the wilderness. I longed for God, the Saviour of my soul from weakness and from tempest. You divided the waters, and separated the tongues, for I saw lawlessness and contradiction in the city. Day and night it will be and by its walls: lawlessness and toil are in the midst of it, and unrighteousness: and there is no escape from the groans of it, wealth and guile. For though the enemy reproached me, I endured for thy sake: and though the hater of me spoke boastfully against me, I covered myself from him. Thou, O my Lord, who art indifferent, and known to me: and on whom thou didst enjoy a cup with me in the house of God, walking together in one mind. Let death come upon thee, and let the living descend into hell: for wickedness is in their dwellings, in the midst of them: I called to God, and he heard me. Evening and morning and noon I will proclaim, and declare, and his voice shall hear me. He will deliver my soul from those who draw near to me: for there were many with me. He hears, and will humble him, even before the ages: for there is no change in them, for they have not feared God. Stretch forth thy hand for recompense, thou hast defiled his covenant. Thou hast separated thyself from the wrath of his face, and hast brought near their hearts: their words are softer than oil, but they are sharp. Turn to the Lord thy sorrow, and that one shall feed thee, not giving in the age of the righteous voice. Thou, O God, hast brought down my soul into a dry well. Men of blood and guile will not have days of their own: I however hope on thee.
