Thou hast inspired my prayer, and despise not my supplication. Hear me, and answer me: I have sorrowed with my grief, and was moved by the voice of the adversary and by the heat of sin. For they turned against me in lawlessness, and in wrath they fought against me. My heart is troubled within me, and fear of death has assailed me. Fear and trembling came upon me, and darkness covered me. And I said: Who shall give to me wings as unto a dove, and comfort and rest; all have fled from me, running away, and I have taken up my dwelling in the wilderness. I longed for God, the Saviour of my soul from weakness and tempest. Thou didst drown the ungodly with waters, and divided their tongues, for I saw lawlessness and rebellion in the city. Day and night it shall be and on the walls thereof: lawlessness and toil are in the midst thereof, and injustice: and there is no relief from its groans, its guile and deceit. For though the enemy reproached me, I endured; and though the hater of me spoke proudly against me, I opened my heart to him. Thou, O Lord, art indifferent, my Master, known to me: with whom thou didst partake in laughter with me, walking together in one mind in the house of God. Let death come upon thee, and let the living go down into hell; for wickedness is in their dwellings, in the midst of them: I called on God, and He heard me. Evening and morning and noon I shall proclaim, and announce, and His voice shall hear me. By peace may my soul be delivered from those who draw near to me; for many were with me. He hears, and will humble him, he that was once proud: for there is no change in them, for they have not feared God. Stretch forth Thy hand unto recompense, they have defiled the covenant of His mouth. They separated themselves from the wrath of His face, and drew near their hearts: their words are softer than oil, yet are they swords. Turn to Thee, O Lord, in thy sorrow, and that one shall feed thee, not give voice for ever to the righteous. Thou, O Lord, hast brought down my soul into a pit of corruption. Men of blood and deceit shall not live out their days: but I trust in Thee.
