Grant me, O God, my prayer, and do not despise my supplication. Hearken to me, and answer me: I have mourned with sorrow of heart, and was troubled by the voice of the adversary and by the heat of sin. For they turned away from me in lawlessness, and in wrath they fought against me. My heart is troubled within me, and fear of death has assailed me. Fear and trembling came upon me, and darkness covered me. And I said: Who will give to me wings like a dove, and comfort and rest; all have fled, running away, and I have taken up my dwelling in the wilderness. I longed for God, who saves me from weakness and from tempest. You, O Lord, divided the waters and separated their tongues, for I saw lawlessness and rebellion in the city. Day and night it will dwell by its walls: lawlessness and toil are in the midst of it, and unrighteousness; and there is no defense against its harvest, its guile and deceit. For though the enemy reviled me, I would have endured for thy sake: and though my hater spoke with great vehemence against me, I would have opened myself to him. Thou, O my Lord, who art indifferent, known to me: thou whom in times of joy I enjoyed with thee in the house of God with one mind. Let death come upon thee, and let the living go down into hell: for wickedness is in their dwellings, in the midst of them; but I called to God, and he heard me. Evening and morning and noon I will proclaim, and announce, and the voice of my prayer shall be heard. He will deliver my soul from those who draw near to me: for many were with me. God hears, and will humble him, even before the ages; for there is no change in them, for they have not feared God. Stretch out thy hand for recompense, thou hast defiled his covenant. Thou hast separated thyself from the wrath of his face, and hast drawn near their hearts: their words are softer than oil, but are sharp arrows. Turn to the Lord with sorrow, and he will make thee drink, not giving to the righteous in eternity silence. But thou, O God, hast brought down my spirit into a lowly state. Men of blood and deceit shall not have long days: but I hope on thee, O Lord.
