Genesis reading. [Gen.46:1–7]

When Israel itself and all its creatures rose up, they came to the treasury of oaths and devoured their father Isaac as a sacrifice to God. God spoke to Israel in a vision at night, saying: Jacob, Jacob. he said: what is there? He said to him: I am the God of your fathers, do not be afraid to go into Egypt: for I will make you there into a great language. And Az will go down with you to Egypt, and Az will bring you to the end: and Joseph will lay his hands on your eyes. And Jacob arose from the treasure of the oath: and the sons of Israel took his father, and the wealth, and his wives in chariots, even as Joseph sent to take it. And Jacob took his possessions, and all the wealth that he had acquired into the land of Canaan, and went down into Egypt, and all his seed with him: the Son, and the sons of his sons with him: daughters, and the daughters of his daughters, and brought all his seed into Egypt.

Reading Genesis [46:1–7]

Having set out on a journey, Israel with everything that he had came to the Well of the Oath and made a sacrifice to the God of his father Isaac. God spoke to Israel in a vision at night, saying: “Jacob, Jacob!” The same one said: “What?” And he said to him: “I am the God of your fathers. Do not be afraid to go to Egypt, for there I will turn you into a great nation. I will go with you to Egypt, and I will lead you to the end, and Joseph will close your eyes with his hands.” And Jacob arose from the Well of the Oath, and the sons of Jacob lifted up their father Israel, and his baggage, and his wives, on the wagons that Joseph had sent for him. And taking all that they had, and all the property that they had acquired in the land of Canaan, Jacob and his seed with him came to Egypt: sons and sons of his sons with him, daughters and daughters of his daughters; and he brought all his seed to Egypt.

Prokeimenon (Psalm 120), tone 6: May the Lord preserve you from all evil,/ May the Lord preserve your soul.

Verse: I have lifted up my eyes to the mountains, from there my help will come.

Prokeimenon (Psalm 120), tone 6: The Lord will preserve you from all evil, the Lord will preserve your soul.

Verse: I raised my gaze to the mountains, from where my help will come.

Reading parables. [Proverbs 23:15–35, 24:1–5]

Son, if your heart is wise, make my heart glad. And your words will remain in my mouth, even if they are right. Let not your heart be jealous of the sinner, but be in the fear of the Lord all day long. If I keep it, you will have grandchildren, and your hope will not fail. Listen, son, and become wise, and correct the thoughts of your heart. Do not wake up the wine drinker, below, add to the folding and bathing of the meat: For every drunkard and fornicator shall become poor, and shall be clothed in torn clothes, and every drowsy one shall be clothed in rags. Listen to the son of the father who gave birth to you, and do not despise when your mother grows old. Acquire the truth, and do not deny wisdom, and teaching, and reason. A righteous father brings up good, but his soul rejoices in his wise son: Let the father and mother rejoice in you, and let the one who gave birth to you rejoice. Give me your heart, my son, and let your eyes keep your ways. A strange house is crushed, and a strange student is cramped. This one will soon perish, and every criminal will be consumed. Who cares? who's the rumor?

who cares? who has sorrows and quarrels, who has sorrows in vain? who has blue eyes? Are they not in wine? and not to those who watch where the feasts are: Do not get drunk with wine, but talk to a righteous man, and talk in the passers-by, even on cups and glasses, let your eyes follow you walk on the white tree. Afterwards, as if from the serpent he was wounded, and as if from the kerast poison was poured out upon him. Whenever your eyes see a stranger, your mouth will then cry out loudly: And you will lie down as in the heart of the sea, and as a helmsman in great commotion. You said: “Bisha me, and I did not get sick, and I quarreled with me, but I did not understand: when the morning comes, I will demand it, I will come down with you.” Son, do not be jealous of an evil husband, but desire to be with them: for their hearts learn to lie, and their lips speak diseases. With wisdom a house is built, and with wisdom it is corrected: With feeling the treasures of all wealth, honest and good, are filled.

It is better to be wise and strong, and the husband has the intelligence of a farmer.

Reading the book of Proverbs [23:15–35; 24:1–5]

My son! If your heart is wise, then you will make my heart glad. And your lips will converse with my lips if they are truthful. Let your heart not envy sinners, but remain in the fear of the Lord all day long, because if you keep this, you will have grandchildren and your hope will not be lost. Listen, my son, and be wise, and correct the thoughts of your heart. Do not be a wine drinker and do not join the communities of those who are satiated with meat, because every drunkard and fornicator will become poor, and everyone who is sleepy will be dressed in torn clothes and rags. Listen, my son, to the father who gave birth to you, and do not despise your mother when she is old. Acquire the truth and do not reject wisdom, and teaching, and reason. A righteous father raises well, and his soul rejoices over a wise son. May your father and mother rejoice over you, and may she who gave birth to you rejoice. My son, give me your heart, and let your eyes watch my ways. Someone else's house is a drilled vessel, and someone else's well is cramped. He will soon perish, and every lawbreaker will be destroyed.

Who has grief, who has indignation, who has trials, who has troubles and strife, who has beatings for no reason, who has crimson eyes? Is it not those who constantly sit drinking wine? Is it not those who are looking for where drinking parties take place? Do not get drunk with wine, but talk with righteous people and talk while walking, for if you fix your eyes on the bowls and vessels, then later you will walk nakeder than a bleaching tree, and finally you will stretch out like one bitten by a snake, and poison will spill into him like an asp. When your eyes see another man's wife, then your lips will speak debauchery, and you will lie as if in the middle of the sea, like a helmsman in great excitement. And you will say: “They beat me - and it didn’t hurt me, they mocked me - and I didn’t understand when the morning would come; I’ll go look for someone to get along with!” My son! Do not imitate evil people and do not desire to be with them, because their hearts think lies and their lips speak harmful things. With wisdom a house is built and with understanding it is strengthened; with knowledge the storerooms are filled with all kinds of dear and beautiful wealth.

A wise man is better than a strong man, and a wise man is better than a skilled farmer.
