Blessed is the grace of the all-honorable fast: Moses was glorified by this, and the law was accepted in writing on the tablets, the fire of the strongest youths appeared. In this we will extinguish the burning passions of the flesh, crying out to Christ the Savior: grant us all conversion, and deliver Gehenna.
Blessed is the gift of a fully revered fast: after all, through it Moses was glorified and received the Law in writing on tablets, and inexperienced young men turned out to be stronger than fire. Let us extinguish the burning of carnal passions by calling on Christ the Savior: “Grant us all conversion and save us from Gehenna!”

Song 2.
ᾨδὴ β´.
Irmos: You see, you see, for I am the one who saved the sea, and who fed the people of Israel in the desert, and who brought forth water from the stone by man, and who of old carried the fallen into the aphids, I will draw you to Me for my unspeakable mercy.
Irmos: Look, it's Me! I am the One who saved the people of Israel at sea, and fed them to the full in the desert, and poured out water from the rock for mortals, so that, having suffered the one who in ancient times fell into decay, I could draw [him] to Myself by unspeakable mercy.

Be sober, stay awake, breathe, shed a tear, let go of all the burdens of sin, soul, with warm repentance run away from the fire, and tear away the lamentable robe, the Divine robe, through the tears of passion accepting.
Begin to be sober, watchful, groan and cry, O soul, thanks to fasting, throw off the heavy burden of sin! Avoid the fire by ardent repentance, and having torn the sad garment of passions with [your] sadness, put on the divine robe!

Let us begin to the grief of fair deeds with the forgiveness of all, pre-zealous abandonment of sweets: and having entered into the darkness of honest visions, we will see alone Christ’s zealous kindness, we adore secretly Divine ascents.
Thanks to fasting, let us rise to the mountain of excellent deeds, let us leave the low pretexts of pleasures, let us clothe ourselves in the darkness of sacred contemplations, and let us see the ardently desired beauty of Christ alone, mysteriously deified in the divine ascent!

Woe is me, who will I be? What am I doing, committing a sin, and not fearing the Lord without conscience? For this reason, before judgment, I am condemned: O good justice, having converted me, save me, who have grieved You above all men.
Alas! What will I become, what will I come to, committing sin, not fearing the Lord, unscrupulous? Therefore, I am already condemned before the trial. Good and Righteous Judge, You, having converted me, save me, even though I have upset You more than all people!

Theotokos: The untouched Earth, which has sprouted all the Nourishers, who opens His hand, and with His favor saturates every living thing with Divine strength: strengthen the weakened hearts with the bread of life the satiety of our fierce sins.
Theotokos. The land is not plowed, but has brought forth the Nourisher of all [that is], the One who opens His hand, feeding every living creature according to His good will and God’s power! With the Bread of Life strengthen the hearts that have exhausted the painful satiety of our sins!
