All-compassing Spirit, God and helper of all the world, hasten and direct my heart, to begin with understanding and to end with good works inspired by Thy holy books; where steadfast are the fiery twofold tongues, and which now I wish to speak as unworthy: understand.
Thou Who art the Lord, I beseech Thee, and that Thou mightest grant me Thy help: O Lord, direct my way, and strengthen my heart, not for the sake of vain words to strive with thee, but for the understanding of what is spoken, to rejoice therein, and to prepare myself for the doing of good works; teach me, and I say:
May we be illumined by good works, partakers of righteous judgments on the tribunals, thy handmaids. And now, Blessed Lady, bless me that having exhorted from my heart, I may sing with my tongue, saying thus:
Come, let us bow down in worship to our God.
Come, let us bow down and prostrate ourselves before the King, Jesus Christ.
Come, let us bow down and prostrate ourselves before the King, our Jesus Christ, and before God our Father.
Therefore, let him stand thus a little, until all the senses are quieted: then let him begin to make his prayer without haste, without laziness, with compunction of heart and humbled spirit. Say this: Blessed is the man: quiet and wise, attentive, and not hasty, as he quietly understands the words spoken.
