At the appointed time, a sticheron of the eighth mode is sung, the tone being ē.

Thee, O Incarnate Saviour of the Theotokos, and Thou not having been separated from Her, in Thy songs we magnify with voice: For Thou didst take death by Thyself, for our kindred, and as a lover of mankind Thou didst dash the gates of hell, and three days Thou didst rise again, saving our souls.

Verily, hymns are likened to the throne of the Theotokos, and the voice saith:

Likeable:
Rejoice in fasting:

With my hands I stretch out to Thee, and with my foul mouth I open wide for prayer; bowing down my heart’s knee, and touching with my unclean feet Thy most pure ones now, saying: And I do cast myself upon Thee: heal my diseases, both many and incurable by Thine own goodness. Deliver me from visible enemies and invisible: comfort the youth, the burden of my laziness, that I may sing to Thee and glorify, finding peace with a great voice of prayer.

Rejoice, O Mother of God, beyond telling consecrated by all-pure conception, and having given birth to Thee, Thou didst receive our flesh from Thy immaculate and self-ruling Spirit: for not in want didst Thou clothe Thyself in Adam, but for mercy's sake and unspeakable goodness. In both natures Thou dost proclaim us, showing by Thine own self the working of Jesus Christ: pray therefore that great mercy may be given to our souls.

Rejoice in goodness, as one whom God hath chosen and loved, door of the saved, flame-bearing snare, release from oaths, all-holy: womb that contained the Lord, lifting up of the fallen: more glorious than cherubim, and thy faces surpassing: invisible vision, hearing newest, unspeakable speech, chariot of the word: cloud, whence hath arisen the sun, and enlighteneth me, and giveth great mercy to them in darkness.

Glory, and now, O Theotokos:

O Lord, Thou hast foretold and fulfilled twice the reading:

"Behold, a voice cried from the prophet, opening the door of thy prophecy, seeing it in the east, where no man can pass; truly, thy foundation, O King of all the world."

"And behold, fire consuming with flame, for within thee is the fire of divinity, and cannot be quenched. And a mountain burned, from which a stone was hewn, without human hand, and smote the image of Nebuchadnezzar in his mind: truly great and glorious, wherein there is a mystery of God."

Therefore we glorify Thee; by thee hath been saved our souls.
