At the appointed time, a sticheron is sung, the tone being 3.

Thee, O Incarnate Saviour of Christ, and Theotokos not having been separated from Thee, in Thy hymns we magnify with voice: For Thou didst take death by Thyself, for the sake of our kindred, and having cast down the gates of hell, Thou arosest on the third day, saving our souls.

Verily, hymns are likened to the throne of the Theotokos, Gloria: Verily: Rejoice in fasting:

I stretch out my hands to Thee, and open wide my lips in prayer; I bend down my hearted knee, and now with my holy feet touch Thy pure ones, reading: And I fall down before Thee: heal my diseases, both many and incurable by Thine healing grace. Deliver me from visible enemies and invisible: relieve the weariness of my youth, that I may sing to Thee and glorify, whom I shall find great in mercy.

Rejoice again, O Virgin unspeakably conceived, and having given birth to Thee, Thou didst receive our flesh from Thy immaculate blood, and didst possess a soul both understanding and self-governing: for not in want didst Thou clothe Thyself with Adam, but out of love and an ineffable mercy. In two natures Thou dost declare us, showing in Thyself the action of Jesus Christ: wherefore we pray Thee, O Soul, to grant great mercy to our souls.

Rejoice in righteousness, as one whom God hath chosen and loved, gate of the saved, fiery snare, unbreakable bond, all-holy: womb that received the Lord, lifting up the fallen: more glorious than cherubim, and surpassing all thy companions: invisible vision, new hearing, unspeakable speech, chariot of the word: cloud from which the sun arose, enlightening me, giving great mercy to the needy in darkness.

Glory, and now, O Theotokos:

Wherefore we have prayed to Thee, and hast fulfilled both the double reading: "And He opened a door for thee from the prophet, a door on the east, which no man entereth, in which is thy foundation, and all the world." And "He kindled fire with fire," because in Thee dwelleth the fire of the Holy Spirit, and cannot be quenched. And "He made a mountain burn," from whence a stone was hewn out, save for human hand, and smote the image of Nebuchadnezzar: verily great and glorious is that mystery of Thy Godhead. Wherefore we glorify Thee; by Thee hath been saved our souls.
