At the appointed time a sticheron of the eighth mode is sung, the tone being:
Thee, O Incarnate Salvation of God, and Theotokos not separated from Him, in Thy hymns we magnify with voice: For Thou didst take death by the lips, O Lover of mankind, didst dash in pieces the gates of hell, and on the third day didst rise again, saving our souls.
Verily, hymns are likened to the throne of the Theotokos, Gloria: Verily: Rejoice in fasting:
I stretch out my hands to Thee, and with foul mouth I open wide for prayer, and bow down my heart’s knee, and with my lips now touch Thy holy feet, saying: And I fall down before Thee: heal my diseases, both many and incurable by Thine healing grace. Deliver me from visible enemies and invisible ones: comfort the youth of my weariness, that I may sing to Thee and glorify, whom I shall find great mercy.
Rejoice, O Mother of God, beyond telling begun without blemish, and having given birth to Thee, Thou didst receive our flesh from Thy immaculate and self-ruling blood: for not in want clothed Thyself in Adam, for the sake of mercy and ineffable goodness. In both natures Thou dost declare us, showing within Thyself the working of Jesus Christ: pray that Thy souls may receive great mercy.
Rejoice in goodness, as one whom God hath chosen and loved, door of the saved, fiery snare, release from oaths, all-holy: womb that received the Lord, lifting up the fallen: more glorious than cherubim, and thy faces surpassing: invisible vision, hearing newest, unspeakable speech, chariot of the word: cloud, whence hath arisen the sun, and enlighteneth me, and giveth great mercy to them in darkness.
Glory, and now, O Theotokos:
O Lord, Thou hast prophesied and fulfilled double the reading:
By the prophet's word, Thou didst open a door to Thy prophecy, standing in the east, where no man can pass; truly, Thine own glory, O King of all.
And by the fire that burneth, because within Thee abideth the fire of God, and cannot be quenched.
Thou hast made a mountain burn, from which none could hew a stone corner-stone except with human hand, and Thou smotest the image of Nebuchadnezzar's mind: verily great and glorious is that mystery of Thee, O God.
Therefore we glorify Thee; by Thee was our souls' salvation brought about.
