At the appointed time, a sticheron is sung, the tone being 3rd.
Thee, O Incarnate Saviour of the Theotokos, and Thou not having been separated from Her, in Thy songs we glorify with voice: For Thou didst take death by the lips, O Lover of mankind, and didst cast down the gates of hell; for three days didst Thou rise again, saving our souls.
Surely these stichera are akin to the throne of the Theotokos, Gloria:
Rejoice: For the fast is a joy.
Ruci prostraju k tobě, i skverneni ustně ovrazaju k moleniju, i priklonjaju sertedchno koleno, i umno nogam tvoim prichystym nyně prikasausy, chto: i pripadaju k tobě: bolěni mojai isceli, letnye mojai mnovyagi i neisceles blagostiju tvoyu isceles strupy. Izbavi ot vidimyx vragov i nevidimyx: oblégchi utrokovicete, těhotu lěnosti moje, gakda da te poju i slavlu, euyezhe obrěte mir veliju mlyt'.
Rejoice, O Mother of God, beyond telling begun without blemish, and having given birth to Thee, Thou didst receive our flesh from Thy immaculate and self-ruling Spirit: for not in want didst Thou clothe Adam, but out of Thine unspeakable mercy and ineffable goodness. In both natures Thou dost declare us, showing in Thyself the working of Jesus Christ: wherefore pray we that Thy soul may give great mercy to our souls.
Rejoice in goodness, as one whom God hath chosen and loved, door of the saved, flame-bearing snare, oath release, all-blessed: womb containing the Lord, lifting up the fallen: more glorious than cherubim, and thy faces surpassing theirs: invisible vision, hearing newest, unspeakable speech, chariot of the word: cloud, from whence hath arisen the sun, and enlighteneth me, giving great mercy to the living in darkness.
Glory, and honour, now, to the Theotokos:
Therefore, we pray to Thee, O Lord, and fulfill the double reading: "Behold, a voice of one crying in the wilderness, make straight the way of the Lord, in the east, seeing it, none may pass; truly, Thy straightener, throughout all the world. And behold, a fire consuming with flame, because within Thee is the fire of divinity, and cannot be quenched. And a mountain burning, from which a stone of corner was hewn, except by human hand, and Thou smotest the image of the mind of Nebuchadnezzar: verily, great and glorious, in Thee there is a mystery of God."
Therefore we glorify Thee: for by Thee hath been saved our souls.
