Praise the name of the Lord, praise the servants of the Lord, who stand in the church of the Lord, in the courtyards of the house of our God. Praise the Lord, for the Lord is good, sing to His name, for He is good: for the Lord has chosen Jacob for Himself, Israel for His own possession. For I have known that the Lord is great, and our Lord is above all gods. Create whatever the Lord desires in heaven and on earth, in the seas and in all the abysses. Raising clouds from the last of the earth, creating lightning in the rain, driving winds from Your treasures. And smite the firstborn of Egypt, from man to beast. I sent signs and wonders in the midst of You, Egypt, against Pharaoh and all his servants. And he smote the tongues of many, and smote the mighty kings: Sihon king of the Amorites, and Og the king of Bashan, and all the kingdom of Canaan, and gave the land their inheritance, the inheritance of Israel, to His people. Lord, Your name endures forever, and Your memory endures forever: for the Lord will judge His people, and He will pray for His servants. Idols are the tongue, silver and gold, the work of human hands.
They are weary and will not listen; they have eyes and will not see; they have ears and will not hear; for there is spirit in their mouth. Let those who create, and all who trust in her, be like them. To the house of Israel, bless the Lord; to the house of Aaron, bless the Lord; to the house of Levi, bless the Lord. Ye who fear the Lord, bless the Lord. Blessed is the Lord from Zion, who lives in Jerusalem. Praise the name of the Lord, praise the Lord, O servants, who stand in the church of the Lord, in the courts of the house of our God! Praise the Lord, for the Lord is good! Sing His name, for it is wonderful! For the Lord chose Jacob for Himself, and made Israel His heritage. For I knew that the Lord is great, that our Lord is above all gods; Everything that the Lord wanted, He created in heaven and on earth, in the seas and in all the abysses. He lifts up the clouds from the ends of the earth, creates lightning during thunderstorms, and brings out the winds from His storehouses. He smote the firstborn of Egypt, from man to every beast; He sent signs and wonders to you, Egypt, to Pharaoh and all his servants.
He struck down many nations and destroyed mighty kings: Sihon king of the Amorites, Og king of Bashan, and the kingdoms of Canaan; And He gave their land as an inheritance, as an inheritance for Israel His people. Lord, Your name is glorious forever, and Your memory is from generation to generation; For the Lord will judge His people and have mercy on His servants. The idols of the pagans are silver and gold, the work of human hands: They have lips and speak not; they have eyes and do not see; They have ears, but they do not hear; and there is no breath in their mouths. May those who make them and rely on them become like idols! House of Israel, bless the Lord! House of Aaron, bless the Lord! House of Levi, bless the Lord! Ye who fear the Lord, bless the Lord! Blessed be the Lord of Zion who dwells in Jerusalem!
Psalm 135
Alleluia.
Alleluia, 135.
Confess to the Lord that He is good, for His mercy endures forever. Confess to the God of gods, for His mercy endures forever. Confess to the Lord of the Lord, for His mercy endures forever. Great is the one who performed miracles, for His mercy endures forever. To Him who created the heavens with His understanding, for His mercy endures forever. Who established the earth on the waters, for His mercy endures forever. Great is the One who created the luminaries, for His mercy endures forever. The sun is in the region of the day, for His mercy endures forever. The moon and stars in the region of the night, for His mercy endures forever. He who smote Egypt from its firstborn, for His mercy endures forever, and who brought Israel out from among them, for His mercy endures forever. With a strong hand and a high muscle, as His mercy endures forever. To Him who divided the Red Sea into divisions, for His mercy endures forever. And he who brought Israel through the midst of it, for His mercy endures forever. And to him that destroyed Pharaoh and his strength in the Red Sea, for his mercy endureth forever. He who led His people in the wilderness, for His mercy endures forever.
He struck down the great king, for His mercy endures forever, and he who slew the mighty king, for His mercy endures forever: Sihon king of the Amorites, for His mercy endures forever, and Og the king of Bashan, For His mercy endures forever. And to him who gave the land their inheritance, for His mercy endures forever. His heritage is for Israel his servant, for his mercy endures forever. For in our humility we remember the Lord, for His mercy endures forever. And He delivered us from our enemies, for His mercy endures forever. Give food to all flesh, for His mercy endures forever. Confess to the God of heaven, for His mercy endures forever. Glorify the Lord, for He is good, and His mercy endures forever! Praise the God of gods. For His mercy endures forever! Glorify the Lord of lords, for His mercy endures forever! He, the One, performed miracles, for His mercy endures forever! He created the heavens with His mind, for His mercy endures forever! He established the earth on the waters, for His mercy endures forever; He, the One, created the great lights, for His mercy endures forever; The sun that reigns by day, for His mercy endures forever; The moon and stars that reign in the night, for His mercy endures forever!
He smote Egypt and its firstborn, for His mercy endures forever! And he brought Israel out of that country, for His mercy endures forever, with a strong hand, with a right hand raised threateningly, for His mercy endures forever! He divided the Red Sea in two, for His mercy endures forever, and He brought Israel through the midst of it, for His mercy endures forever; And he cast Pharaoh and his army into the Red Sea, for His mercy endures forever! He led His people through the wilderness, for His mercy endures forever! He struck down great kings, for His mercy endures forever! And he slew mighty kings, for His mercy endures forever: Sihon king of the Amorites, for His mercy endures forever, Og king of Bashan, for His mercy endures forever! And He gave their land as an inheritance, for His mercy endures forever, and as an inheritance to His servant Israel, for His mercy endures forever! In our humiliation the Lord remembered us, for His mercy endures forever! He delivered us from our enemies, for His mercy endures forever! He gives food to every creature, for His mercy endures forever. Glorify the God of Heaven, for His mercy endures forever!
Psalm 136
David Jeremiah.
David, through Jeremiah, 136.
On the rivers of Babylon, where we ride and weep, we will sometimes remember Zion. On the willows in the middle of it are our organs. For there you asked us captive about the words of the songs and led us about the singing: sing to us from the songs of Zion. How shall we sing the song of the Lord in a foreign land? If I forget you, Jerusalem, my right hand will be forgotten. Let my tongue cleave to my throat, lest I remember you, lest I offer Jerusalem, as at the beginning of my joy. Remember, O Lord, sons of Edom, on the day of Jerusalem those who said: exhaust, exhaust it to its foundations. Accursed daughter of Babylon, blessed is she who will reward you with what you have rewarded us. Blessed is he who has and will dash your babies against the stone. On the rivers of Babylon, there we sat and wept when we remembered Zion. We hung our harps on the willow trees in that country. There our conquerors asked us about the words of the songs, taking us captive about our singing: “Sing us the songs of Zion!” How can we sing the Lord’s song in a foreign land?
If I forget you, O Jerusalem, may God forget the works of my hands! May my tongue dry up to my throat if I do not remember you, if Jerusalem is not the pinnacle of my joy! Remember, Lord, to the sons of Edom, who said on the day of the destruction of Jerusalem: “Destroy to the ground, destroy it!” Wretched daughter of Babylon, blessed is he who will reward you according to your deserts for everything that you have done for us! Blessed is he who seizes your babies and dashes them against the stone!
Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.
