The 9th canon of the canon glorifies the Holy Virgin Mary. The song of the Mother of God at the meeting with Saint Elizabeth: “My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God, my Savior...” (this song is usually sung before the 9th song of the canon at the Matins service) and the prayer of Zechariah, struck dumb for not believing that a son, John the Baptist, will be born to him, and having regained the gift of speech: “Blessed is the Lord God Israel..." - formed the basis of this song.
