Unspotted by passions thou didst remain, O Word of God, / Incarnate thou didst take flesh: / But thou hast resolved from the passions of man, / Incarnate thou didst become a passion for our salvation: / For thou alone art without passion, and all-powerful.

Thou didst receive the deadly sting, and by thy precious body thou didst destroy corruption; / but thy soul, O Saviour, and thy Spirit were not left in Hades, but together with thee they descended into the lower regions: / for thou, O Christ our God, didst declare to the good thief upon the cross.

If thou didst descend into the grave, O Life-giving One,
but didst shatter the strongholds of hell, O Jesus Christ,

by faith and love glorifying Thee.

Let the creation rejoice and blossom as a garden:
for Jesus Christ hath raised up the dead from the grave.
Where now is thy sting, O death; we cry.
Where now is thy victory, O hell;
thou hast been cast down into the earth,
exalting our horn, for thou art good.

Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men.
But bearing him who bears all, and holding fast as one that holds a little child in his arms, and from hands delivering us from the foe that fought against us, trampling down the Lady, thou didst see upon the cross trees exalted,
lifting up our race from the pit of darkness.

Star shining with the rays of divinity from Jacob,
enveloped by darkness:
By thee, O all-creating Word of God, Jesus Christ,
all creation is enlightened;
through thee we glorify thy heavenly mysteries.

With strength and by Thy grace I am strengthened, / O my soul, with a heartfelt song I have laid it upon Thee: / But receive this, Thou who readest the two, / granting Thy great light, O giver of good things, / from Thy unaging treasures, O God-blessed One.

Having stood in the presence of God,
in which the word of the bodily garment is woven,
God hath opened my double eyes:
in which all salvation is hidden,
from the clear sense of those who glorify Thee.
