O Soul/Spirit, draw near to the Lord thy God, who loveth thee with an everlasting love; and be thou filled with His grace, that thou mayest cry out with understanding: "Save me, O Lord, for Thou art my God."

By the grace of God, blessed Avvakum with his prophetic eyes beholding with understanding, proclaimed to thee, O Jesus Christ, in glory, for our consolation and renewal.

Who is this Saviour, who went forth and came back, bearing a crown of thorns on His head, wearing a purple robe, hanging upon the wood; He is our Holy One, in salvation for us and renewal.

Behold the people disobedient and ashamed: for his sake ye lifted up on the cross at the hands of Pilate and implored death, breaking the strength thereof; and gloriously rising from the grave, O Lord, Thou wast manifested in mercy.

O Theotokos,

Tree of life and death: for thou hast made us to partake thereof suddenly, but the fruit thereof that is deadly to men doth not grow forth from thee, but joy in the enjoyment of life ever present, in the peace of them that sing to thee.

And Iirmos: The Rod from the Root of Jesse:

Verily this is adorned with the winepress, and divers colored from the vineyard of winepresses; adorned as is God, and as is man, by the blood of his flesh turned red; to him we sing: Glory becometh thy power, O Lord.

Jesus Christ hath made the forgiveness of our sins to abound exceedingly: and having shown a strange way by His own blood, He entered into the greater and more perfect tabernacle, passing through our flesh.

O Theotokos,

Ancient debt thou hast besought, O All-Pure Virgin, for us, that through the greater mercy of the new Adam. Having united thyself with a pure conception, O Pure-minded One, quickened by Thee, Jesus Christ was born, one in Thy womb, O Lady.

And Irmos: By Thy Holy Spirit:

Hear the wonders of heaven, and let the earth be filled, as by the finger of God, with the fall of Adam, the Theotokos was called upon, and became our helper and mother for our salvation and renewal.

We sing thy great and fearful mystery, O Lord, for the most honorable cherubim and seraphim, bowing down to thee, whereon thou didst descend as rain upon the fleece, all-compassionate, singing with those who praise thee.

Hallowed be Thy Name, O All-Pleasing Theotokos, and the language of prayer, and the comfort of the faithful, for Thou art our Deliverer and Life-Giver, O Lord: pray to Thee, that we may be saved by Thee, O Savior.
