By the power of the divine grace revealed, the prophet Avvakum with clear eyes beheld with his own eyes and proclaimed to thee, O Jesus Christ, in our salvation and renewal.

Who is this Saviour who, having gone forth and come back, bears a crown of thorns on His head, wearing a purple robe, hanging upon the wood; He is our Holy One, in our salvation and renewal.

Behold ye the people disobedient and ashamed: for his sake, whom ye have lifted up on the cross of Pilate and besought to give thee death-stroke, with power he destroyed death itself, and by his own will he rose from the grave.

The Theotokos:

Tree of life and death: for the fruit thereof is not poisonous to man from thee we have eaten, but the enjoyment of life present with us in the joy of them that sing thy praise.

And Irmos: The Rod from the Root of Jesse:

Verily this is adorned with the winepress, and divers colored from the vineyard of wine; adorned as is God, adorned as is man, by the blood of his flesh turned pale; to him we sing: Glory becometh thy power, O Lord.

Jesus Christ hath made the sinner's sin to be destroyed: and having shown a strange way by His own blood, He entered in with greater and more perfect power, passing through our nature.

O Theotokos,

Ancient debt hast thou besought, O all-compassionate Virgin, for us sinners for the sake of Him Who was made new Adam. Having united thyself with a pure conception, O pure and quickened by Thee, Thou didst bring forth Jesus Christ, One in Thee both God and Man.

And Irmos: By Thy Holy Spirit:

Hear the wonders of heaven, and let the earth be filled, as with the fingers of the Lord's hand, smiting the fallen Adam; God hath been called upon to be, and in her own behalf a helper, for our salvation and renewal.

We sing thy great and fearful mystery, O Lord, for the chief of the ranks, bowing down to thee, as thou didst descend in rain upon the fleece, all-compassionate, singing with those who praise thee.

Hallowed be Thy Name, O All-Pleasing Theotokos, and the Prayer of tongues, and the Comfort of the faithful, to Thee we lift up our voice, O Saviour and Giver of Life, and the Lord: pray for us, O Servant of His Majesty.
