O Soul/Spirit, being led captive by the adversary, groan in compunction and tenderness of heart, for thou art created for life eternal and dost not abide in death. For though thou hast been deceived by spiritual delusion, yet thou art called to the knowledge of the truth. Therefore, let us pray with humility and contrition of spirit, that we may be delivered from the snares of deceit and be made partakers of the divine glory.

By the grace of God, blessed Avvakum with his prophetic eyes beholding with understanding, proclaimed to thee, O Jesus Christ, in glory, for our consolation and renewal.

Who is this Saviour who, having gone forth and come back, bears a crown of thorns on His head, wearing a purple robe, hanging upon the wood; He is our Holy One, in salvation for us and in renewal.

Behold the people disobedient and ashamed: for his sake ye lifted up on the cross the wood of the gallows, and by thyself hast broken its power, O God-loving One, and in thy God-love wast raised from the grave.

O Theotokos,

The tree of life and wisdom: for its fruit is not deathly to man, but the enjoyment of life ever present, in the bliss of those who sing to thee.

And Irmos: The Rod from the Root of Jesse:

Who, O Thou adorned with the beauty of life, and painted with various hues as from the vineyards, art adorned like God, like man, thy flesh turned red with blood; to Him we sing: Glory be to Thy power, O Lord.

Jesus Christ hath made the forgiveness of our sins to abound exceedingly: and having shown a strange way by His own blood, He entered into the better and more perfect tabernacle, passing through our flesh.

O Theotokos,

Ancient debt thou hast besought, O all-compassionate Virgin, for us, that through the greater mercy of the new Adam. Having united thyself with a pure conception, O pure and quickened body, from thee sprang Jesus Christ, one in essence with Thee.

And Irmos: By Thy Holy Spirit:

Hear the wonders of heaven, and let the earth be filled, as with the fingers of Thy hand, O God, was it called upon by the Spirit, and in her own self became the helper of her offspring, for our salvation and renewal.

We sing thy great and fearful mystery, O Lord, for the princes and archangels themselves venerate thee, whereon thou didst descend as rain upon the fleece, all-compassionate, for the salvation of those who sing thee.

Hallowed be Thy name, O All-praising Theotokos, and the peace of the faithful, and to Thee we cry: deliver us, Saviour and Giver of life, O Lord: pray for us.
